Returning champion Mehal Shah made these two ‘insane” Daily Double moves that amazed fans
Mehal Shah aced the Daily Doubles on Thursday’s episode
Returning champion Mehal Shah wowed fans with his True Daily Double on Jeopardy!.
Mehal, a software engineer from Seattle, Washington, competed against Holly Luo, a product designer originally from San Diego, California and Jack Altman, a law student from New York City on the ABC trivia game show on Thursday, November 21. During the game, Mehal showed why he was the returning champion especially with his bold moves in Double Jeopardy.
The software engineer got both Daily Doubles during that round and for both, he made it a True Daily Double. The first DD category was Norse Myth for $1600 and the second one category was Storming the Castle for $1600. The respective clues and answers were: “The 9 realms include Alfheim, Home of the Light Elves, Nidavellir, Home of the Dwarves & Home to Us Puny Ol’ Mortals” (Midgard) and “Now meaning to secretly weaken, it originally meant to tunnel below a fortification in order to collapse the walls” (Undermine).
The first DD win took him from $5,600 to $13,200 and the second DD took him from $13,200 to $26,400. Fans online were in just as much amazement with Mehal as the live Jeopardy! audience who reacted with gasps and “woahs.” One fan on the Jeopardy! subreddit for the episode wrote: “Insane Daily Doubles from Mehal to get a well-deserved win. Jack and Holly had really good games too, there’s just nothing you can do against that. Really fun game! Great job Mehal, Jack and Holly!” A second fan said: “Wow, Mehal is a force to be reckoned with those Daily Doubles today.” Another wrote: “Feel like it’s been a while since we’ve seen such a ballsy DD pay off, great game.”

On the same Reddit thread, Mehal himself, made a post sharing his thoughts on the game that episode. Within the post, he specifically addressed his Daily Doubles that had people calling him “brave” which he found amusing.
“It’s funny to me that a lot of people think I was being brave for TDDing. To me, it was the only right decision given how fast Holly and Jack were on the buzzer. From studying, I found that I have about an 80% get rate on DDs when I feel confident in the category and it was worth taking a shot,” Mehal said.
“The only reason I paused was to muster up the courage. As a Bills fan, I’m tickled pink that this comes after that 4th and 2 call against the Chiefs on Sunday,” he added.
He went on to say that he doesn’t believe players should be thinking about the score “in the Jeopardy round” but to focus on clearing the board and betting it all on the DD. That seemed to work out For Mehal who did not get the Final Jeopardy clue correct but his low wager and large total due to the True Daily Doubles paid off. Mehal is now a second day-winning champion with an earnings of $46,062.
