Jeopardy! has one of the strongest, most passionate fan bases of any show in television history.
This week, fans of the popular game show are upset over an “inappropriate” word being used in a clue. The “inappropriate” word was used during a clue in the Double Jeopardy! section of the competition.
Dave Bond, the returning champion, picked an $800 question from the category titled, “A” FOR ART. Host Ken Jennings then read the clue.
“3-word title of a Titian in the Prado: she’s reaching for the forbidden fruit, he’s reaching for her boob.”
Jeopardy! fans were not very happy with the “inappropriate” word being used in the show, which is often watched by kids with their parents.
“Doubt that would fly 20 or even 10 years ago,” one fan wrote. “‘Breast’ would’ve been the word of choice. The clue writers have gotten more goofy in recent years.”
“It’s taken about 50 years, but by using “boob” in a clue in reference to a female breast, Jeopardy! has finally progressed to the level of language used by 1970s Match Game,” one fan added.
“It was previously established you can say “manboobs,” so this is giving equal treatment to all kinds of boobs,'” one fan added.
“I was so distracted by Ken saying boob that I didn’t even hear the clue!” one fan added.
“Today I learned you can say boob on jeopardy,” another fan wrote.
Contestant Zach DeBoer ended up buzzing in with the right answer, which was “Who are Adam and Eve.”
But while Zach got the question right, it was defending champion Dave who took home the title. He finished Friday night’s show with $26,400, winning once again.
What do you make of Jeopardy! using the word “boob” in one its clues? Is that an appropriate clue or not?
