After every show, Jeopardy! fans started a discussion on Reddit.
They talk about the game, what went wrong, the most shocking moments, etc.
On a thread for the July 16 episode, Isaac explained why he wagered $14,000.
Fans replied to his explanation and then Jay chimed in.

“I haven’t had a chance to watch the episode yet, but I was in shock when I won,” he said.
“I wonder if it shows. Isaac is a great competitor and he wasn’t feeling his best.”
“Any other day the results would have been different. I will be cheering him on in the ToC. Congratulations on a great run and good luck in the ToC,” Jay ended.
As of July 18, Jay is the current champion, with three wins under his belt.
He will come back to compete tonight, July 19, and try to nab his fourth win.
GAME OVER
Isaac lost on Tuesday after a nine-day winning streak.
Jeopardy!’s Ken Jennings makes ‘cheeky’ remark after Isaac Hirsch admits to channeling A-list actor’s ‘raw sexual energy’
He made a Final Jeopardy! math mistake and was left shaking his head as the credits rolled.
Isaac faced Erika Stromerson from Woodinville, Washington, and a brief senator Jay Fisher from Lisle, Illinois, and had a total of $215,390.
During that game, he stumbled into last place when he failed the first Daily Double.
Isaac found both Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy!, incorrectly answering the first but messed up on his wager.
Jeopardy! Host Timeline
Jeopardy! has had a tumultuous history regarding hosts after the death of the iconic Alex Trebek in 2020. Here are all of the hosts since the game show’s inception in 1964.
Art Fleming – 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.
Alex Trebek – 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted Jeopardy!’s modern iteration for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.
Guest hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested out a series of guest hosts for week or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton, and Aaron Rodgers.
Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for one week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.
Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.
Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the longest-winning contestant ever) joined Mayim as a guest host and they split hosting duties.
Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a lengthy hiatus, having stood with the writer’s strike, and Ken was named sole host.
Ken now helms all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the nightly show, and other primetime specials like Masters.
Both, he and Jay got the Final Jeopardy! question wrong, but Isaac wagered $14,000, bringing him down to $1,300.
Jay wagered around the same amount, dropping to $1,799.
He won the game show and Isaac walked away from the podium with his hands up, realizing his error.
‘DID THE MATH WRONG’
On the same thread as Jay, Isaac explained why he wagered $14,000.
“Okay, so why did I wager $14,000?” Isaac wrote.
“The short answer is I did the math wrong. (Although I guess it’s kind of obvious based on how I spent the first minute after the game looking at my scratch paper in horror).”
“I was trying to subtract 14,401 from 16,200, and somehow came up with 1300 instead of 1800 as the number I needed to arrive at if I got it wrong, hence the 14,000 wager,” he continued.
“I spent the weeks after the taping seeing the bad math in my sleep. I remembered basically nothing about most of the games last week, but EVERYTHING about this game. All credit to Jay, who absolutely murdered me on the buzzer, especially in the first round.”
“This was bound to happen— I barely survived yesterday and I was just really, really tired. It’s been a fun experience watching these air back and I appreciate how nice people have mostly been to me. I’ll have a lot to prove in ToC; not least that I can do basic arithmetic,” the player finished.
