‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Speaks Out After Final Tough Question

Another tough Final Jeopardy question has fans riled up. However, the reigning Jeopardy  !  champion has spoken out about her answer and the entire game.

She also talked about her betting. “To be honest, I was SO scared on stage and I think that really came through. On both DJ DDs, I bet against myself – all I had in my mind was ‘How much can I afford to lose if I get it wrong?’ and so I tried to keep my score double Joey’s with that in mind. I wish I had believed in myself more, or that I would have bet big regardless, at least on the last DD. If I had done that and gotten it wrong (but still held the lead), I would have been in the same situation as I was in FJ, and if I got it right, I would have been locked in. I just didn’t have the mindset to see that.”

Trout ended the round with a lead of $17,200. Quismorio had $9,400. Borsom was third with $4,200. But Final Jeopardy could change everything, and it did.

The genre for Final Jeopardy was “American History.” The clue read, “He recalled that before the rebellion of 1831, he had a vision of ‘white spirits and black spirits fighting.’” The correct answer was Nat Turner, and only one player answered correctly: Quismorio. He bet $7,801, ending up with $17,201. Borsom’s answer was Brown. She bet $3,000, leaving her with a total of $1,200. Trout answered, “Who is Sitting Bull?” She bet $2,000, ending up with a total of $15,200.

That leaves Quismorio as the winner of the night. He returns on Thursday, June 5 to face two new opponents.

As for the final clue, Trout writes, “My answer didn’t make much sense. The ‘spirit’ part made me think of ghosts, which brought me to Ghost Dance and Sitting Bull. I didn’t even calculate that ‘white’ and ‘black’ meant skin color until it was too late. It was silly, but the worry got the better of me; my head started spinning as soon as the DJ finished and I saw it wasn’t a lockout :/.”

“(Not) fun fact, as soon as the music stopped (literally in the last 5 seconds) I looked at the clue again and this time I got it,” she added. “I realised what they were saying and it was Nat Turner, and I realised I didn’t have enough time to write it down (especially since I had already put my pen down – future contestants, don’t do that), so I just accepted that it was up to Joey, who did it, unsurprisingly and deservedly. And that’s how it went.”

“FJ is so hard today. I thought it was John Brown but realized it was the wrong time,” said one Reddit user.

“Final Jeopardy! strikes again. I feel bad for Stella, but she bet less on Daily Doubles,” another commented.
