Jeopardy! champ Alison Betts shares her ‘only complaint’ with Isaac Hirsch after fan-favorite’s devastating defeat

After Tuesday’s episode, Jeopardy! fans posted about the game in their usual Reddit thread.

They discussed the players and where they were from, their winnings, Double Jeopardy!, and more.

The players joined in on the discussion thread and posted their thoughts.

While everyone discussed the game, Alison commented on Isaac’s fashion sense.

“I’m so bummed to see Isaac go, he’s been an amazing competitor and so fun to watch,” she wrote.

“My only complaint? He’s set the style bar way too high; I have no idea WHAT I’m going to wear in the ToC now.”

ToC is Tournament of Champions.

Isaac has worn button-down shirts with different patterns, sweaters, and suit jackets while on Jeopardy!

Alison won five games in a row and became the first contestant of Season 40 to nab a spot in the TOC.

THAT’S GOTTA HIRSCH

On July 16, Isaac’s winning streak came to an end.

Jeopardy!’s Isaac Hirsch loses 9-day streak on shocking mistake that left him ‘in horror’ & reliving wager in his sleep
He won nine games, allowing him to advance to the Tournament of Champions.

Isaac made a mistake on Final Jeopardy! and was left in disbelief as the show ended.

His nine-day total was $215,390.

On Tuesday, Isaac faced Erika Stromerson from Woodinville, Washington, and Jay Fisher from Lisle, Illinois.

Jeopardy! Host Timeline

Jeopardy! has had a tumultuous history regarding hosts after the death of the iconic Alex Trebek in 2020. Here are all of the hosts since the game show’s inception in 1964.

Art Fleming – 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.

Alex Trebek – 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted Jeopardy!’s modern iteration for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.

Guest hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested out a series of guest hosts for week or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton, and Aaron Rodgers.

Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for one week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.

Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.

Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the longest-winning contestant ever) joined Mayim as a guest host and they split hosting duties.

Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a lengthy hiatus, having stood with the writer’s strike, and Ken was named sole host.

Ken now helms all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the nightly show, and other primetime specials like Masters.

Sadly, his game did not look good when he gave up $3,000 in the first Daily Double.

In Double Jeopardy!, Isaac found both Daily Doubles back-to-back, incorrectly answering the second but correctly answering the third.

However, his bet cost him the win, and he ended up in second place.

The Final Jeopardy! question read, “He said that California prison psych tests he took were ones he had designed, so he made himself look docile & unlikely to escape; then he did.”

The answer was Timothy Leary, but none of the contestants got it right.

Isaac wagered $14,000, which dropped his score to $1,300.

‘DID THE MATH WRONG’

Isaac explained the reasoning behind his wager on the Reddit thread above.

“Okay, so why did I wager $14,000?” he wrote.

“The short answer is I did the math wrong. (Although I guess it’s kind of obvious based on how I spent the first minute after the game looking at my scratch paper in horror).”

“I was trying to subtract 14,401 from 16,200, and somehow came up with 1300 instead of 1800 as the number I needed to arrive at if I got it wrong, hence the 14,000 wager,” Isaac went on.

“I spent the weeks after the taping seeing the bad math in my sleep. I remembered basically nothing about most of the games last week, but EVERYTHING about this game. All credit to Jay, who absolutely murdered me on the buzzer, especially in the first round.”

“This was bound to happen— I barely survived yesterday and I was just really, really tired. It’s been a fun experience watching these air back and I appreciate how nice people have mostly been to me. I’ll have a lot to prove in ToC; not least that I can do basic arithmetic,” Isaac ended.
