The Voice’s Reba McEntire Reveals the *One* Contestant She’d Collaborate With From Her Team
McEntire’s team member, Tom Nitti, exited the show ahead of Playoffs for “personal reasons,” later explaining in an interview with the Utica Observer-Dispatch that his now ex-wife decided to pursue full custody of their two children. “It’s always been a dream of mine to pursue music full-time, but I can’t do that without a cushion,” he told the publication. “As a dad, I need to make sure my children will be supported.”
The New York State trooper and Purple Heart recipient was supported by McEntire in his decision, who told Entertainment Tonight that he “did the right thing.”
“I know its not an easy decision to make,” she said of Nitti ahead of the semifinals. “He did the right thing. Career will be there, because he is that good and I firmly believe in him. Those kids come first, they always come first.”
In a later interview with Entertainment Tonight, McEntire shared an update on her former team member. “Everything’s going great,” she told the outlet. “Everybody is still still so much in love with Tom. He was so good. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him.”
The country crooner also revealed that she would “absolutely” collaborate with Nitti in the future. “Oh my gosh, I’ve got so many ideas,” she said. “He’s great. I love his singing. He’s not only country but he’s bluesy country.”
A collaboration with McEntire wouldn’t the first post-show project for Nitti. Since his departure, Nitti has continued to make music and has even collaborated with fellow Season 24 contestants. On Dec. 4, the country artist announced his latest song on Instagram, revealing that he finished the track titled “One Night Stand” while working with Season 24 contestants BIAS and Lennon VanderDoes. BIAS was eliminated from the competition during semifinals, while VanderDoes was eliminated twice: once during the Knockout Rounds by his coach Niall Horan, and a second time by coach Gwen Stefani during the Playoff Rounds after she used her Super Save to bring him back.
“Wrote this tune in 2021 finished it this summer 2023 in California with some great friends @officiallybias and @lennonvmusic it’s called One Night Stand,” Nitti captioned a video of him performing the song at a local venue. He also shared a video of the three artists collaborating on the song in a hotel room, presumably during their time on the show. “Here’s another version of One Night Stand with three piece harmonies! Absolutely love this jam,” Nitti captioned the post.
The new song came a week after Nitti exited The Voice on Nov. 27. In an emotional Instagram post the following day, he penned: “Well, I’ve been dreading this day ever since the airing of my blind audition so here goes nothin’ … First and foremost I’m blessed beyond belief and I can’t say enough how much I love and appreciate the constant support from my fans, my friends and my family.” He continued, “As much as it absolutely stings to say, I had to make probably one of the hardest yet easiest decisions ever and ultimately at the end of the day, my kids will always come first and if I had to make the same decision again I’d do it over and over.”
