Aaron Judge far from giving up after slow start to 2024
The New York Yankees are off to a good start this season. However, their captain, individually, hasn’t hit his mark so far. Aaron Judge has a batting average of 0.186 with 13 RBI and 4 home runs and an OPS of 0.693 this season.
However, despite the slow start, Judge remains optimistic about bouncing back into form as the season progresses.
“It’s not back yet. It’s always a work in progress,” Judge said as per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. “It’s a long season. I’ve had seasons where I start off worse than this in my career.
“I’ve had seasons where you start off hot and then you always hit a rough patch where you hit about .150 in a whole month. You gotta keep working, gotta keep improving and we’ll get out of it. … I’m still Aaron Judge. I don’t think that’s changed.”
Bronx Bombers’ fans have not taken well to Judge’s slow start and the hitting struggles. He faced backlash in the form of boos last Saturday at the Yankees stadium after striking out for the fourth time against the Blue Jays.
However, such optimistic words from Judge himself would provide hope to fans and loyal Yankees supporters, who want to see their captain back in form soon.
The Yankees are set to play their next game against the Brewers today, after losing to them in their last matchup with the final score of 7-6.
MLB analyst names possible reason behind Aaron Judge’s slow start
Aaron Judge has indeed had a slow start to his 2024 season. There has been much speculation about the reasons behind his recent hitting struggles.
Former MLB pitcher and current MLB analyst Dontrelle Willis has recently dished out his take on Judger’s performance this season and named one possible reason behind the player’s current form.
“I don’t think he’s 100%,” Willis said (at 1:08 in the video below). “Ever since he ran into that fence in LA, he has struggled. He has not looked like the same Aaron Judge we all know and love. I know he is not going to say it but he doesn’t look like he can attack the ball like he wants to.”
The fence clash Willis was referring to happened last year on June 3 during the Yankees’ 6-3 win over the Dodgers. Judge ran straight into a fence to make a catch, resulting in a toe injury that caused him to miss almost 42 games that season. It’s still not clear if the Yankees’ captain is currently nursing an injury, which may explain why there has been a dip in his form.
It remains to be seen how Judge handles the current situation and helps his team reach the postseason and fulfill their World Series dream.
