Gwen Stefani Falls Apart During ‘The Voice’ Performance: “Cut the Cameras!”
Where to Stream:
There’s no sweet escape for Gwen Stefani when it comes to The Voice‘s roving cameras. During Monday’s semi-final round, Stefani was brought to tears by her final contestant, Rose Short, who performed a powerful rendition of “I Want to Know What Love Is.” The Voice coach turned into a giant puddle during the performance, and afterwards, she was so emotional that she asked to “cut the cameras” to give her a moment to collect herself. “I can’t talk. Cut!” said Stefani, waving her arms in front of her face.
On Monday night, the final eight Voice contestants performed solo and in small groups to showcase their range ahead of the live finale next week. Short, Stefani’s final contestant of the season, didn’t get her solo moment until the end of the night, but boy, did she come ready. The contestant stunned the audience with her moving performance of “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner, but the panel was even more impressed.
“Let me go right to your coach, Gwen, for some thoughts,” said host Carson Daly. “No! I’m not ready!” replied Stefani, waving away her tears. “Oh my god, I’m crying.”
After a few moments, Stefani collected herself — only to fall apart again. “That was unbelievable. I’m so in awe of you. I’m so honored to work with you,” said the singer before collapsing onto the table in front of her. “Oh my god, I’m gonna cry. I can’t talk. Cut! Cut the cameras!”
Stefani wasn’t the only one who teared up at Short’s performance. Kelly Clarkson was also brought to tears, and she praised the contestant’s powerful voice. “It was moving. That’s why you’re crying,” said Clarkson, attempting to stand up for her fellow coach. “You are a gift. I don’t care what happens on this show. You are so blessed. That was so good.”
