Gwen Stefani believes her relationship with country star Blake Shelton was a ‘miracle’ after her heartbreaking split from ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

The 55-year-old No Doubt frontwoman — who is slated to release her fourth solo album Bouquet on Friday — got candid about how her perspective on love has changed over time.

She also said she felt protective of her three children after her Gavin split.

During an interview with People on Thursday, the singer shared: ‘The last four years of my life, I got engaged, then I got married and started my life over. Something that I wanted since I was a little girl is to be married and have this love that I saw my parents have and have babies.’

Referring to her failed relationship with Rossdale, 59 — who were together for a total of 19 years prior to their 2015 divorce — she added: ‘That dream was completely ruined; it was crushed, and I had to figure out how I was going to move forward and make a new dream.’

Her whole world turned around later in 2015 when she began to romance Shelton, eventually marrying him in 2021, to which she said, ‘God putting Blake in my life was just that miracle.’

The Hollaback Girl singer and her ex-husband dated for six years prior to saying ‘I do’ in 2002. During the course of their thirteen year marriage, they welcomed sons Kingston, 18,  Zuma, 16, and Apollo, 10.

The songstress also underscored her prioritization of her children amid her heartbreaking split and how her childhood influenced her emotions.

She recalled: ‘Especially growing up with this perfect example of love between my parents. They met when they were 15, and they fell in love, and then they had us (children), and they made us feel like we were everything to them.

‘And when you have a family and it’s the opposite of that, it breaks up… I didn’t know what to do or how to protect my children. And I’m still working on that.’

While chatting with the outlet she also touched on her upcoming album, revealing that she puts ‘a lot out there’ in regards to her emotions and love life.

In her latest track, Somebody Else’s, various lyrics are speculated to be about her divorce from Rossdale and how Shelton’s love is ‘the real thing.’

She vocalizes: ‘Now that I’ve found the real thing / You don’t compare / And I don’t care that you’re somebody else’s / And it doesn’t even break my heart / You’re somebody else’s / And I pray for them whoever they are.’

Stefani also gushed over using her own personal life for musical inspiration and how she connects to the lyrics her songwriters provide her with.

She said: ‘Where does the inspiration come from? Where do these words come from? They do, they come to me, but they’re given to me. So I feel like it’s my responsibility, whether I have children or not children, to share that.

‘It’s a gift to me that I’m sharing with people. And I definitely think that there’s certain songs that they don’t mean the same thing to me as they would mean to somebody else, because nobody’s in my brain or in my heart or in my soul.

‘They’re going to have a different experience through the song,’ she added.

Stefani explained that ultimately her children ‘know what’s going on in their own family and their own life.

‘And what’s real and what’s true,’ she finished.

Her forthcoming album, Bouquet, is slated to release on November 15, 2024, via Interscope Records. The 33 minute album will feature ten songs on it’s track list and is her first release since 2017’s You Make It Feel Like Christmas.
