Former Bad Santa child star has a rough go on Jeopardy!
One of Jeopardy’s three contestants on Wednesday night’s episode was a former child star.
Bad Santa actor Brett Kelly, 30, had a less than stellar turn on the Ken Jennings-hosted game show on October 23.
Kelly played Thurman Merman in the 2003 dark comedy Christmas movie starring Billy Bob Thornton.
The Canadian actor competed against software engineer Sophia Maymudes and game design director Will Wallace — who kicked off the competition with $18,799 from his previous day’s winnings.
Some fans recognized Brett and took to social media to discuss, with one person writing on X: ‘#BrettKelly on @Jeopardy can’t hide from us. You haven’t changed #BadSanta.’

Sophia, who hails from Seattle, answered every question correctly in the ‘Be Witched’ category.
Then, she led in the second round with $6,200 while Wallace, from Austin, Texas, slipped to second with $4,400, and Kelly plummeted to -$1,200.
Kelly climbed out of the negatives in the Double Jeopardy! round as he answered four clues correctly and three clues incorrectly, according to an account from Newsweek.
One of his $400 mistaken answers in the Leading Ladies category was for the clue: ‘Betty Buckley introduced the song Memory on Broadway as Grizabella in this musical.’
Kelly answered, ‘What is Wicked?’ but the accurate answer was ‘What is Cats,’ which Maymudes answered.
He finished the round with $0 while Wallace led with $10,800 and Maymudes trailed behind with $2,800 going into Final Jeopardy.
Brett was not eligible to continue with his $0 total.
Neither Will nor Sophia answered the question about the Roman Catholic Church correctly.

In the end, Will won $10,000 in Wednesday’s game, bringing his total winnings to $28,799.
Meanwhile, Sophia left with $3,000 and Kelly was last with $2,000.
Upon tuning in for the evening game, one viewer asked on X, ‘Is this the kid from Bad Santa on tonight’s episode of Jeopardy? It is!’
Someone else pointed out a missed opportunity in the episode, observing, ‘Brett Kelly was on Jeopardy, and they didn’t mention acting or Bad Santa at all.’
