Donald Trump has congratulated Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Ainsley Earhardt on their engagement after it was announced by the network.
In a post on his Truth Social website on Thursday, which he signed personally, the president-elect described the engagement as a “deal made in HEAVEN!!!”
Newsweek contacted Trump’s presidential transition team for comment on Friday via email. Fox News directed Newsweek to their news article on the engagement when contacted for comment.
Why It Matters
Since entering politics Trump has had a tempestuous relationship with Fox News, the most watched cable news network in the U.S. by some margin.
At times, Trump has criticized the conservative leaning network, accusing it of having “grown weak and soft on Democrats” in October, though he has also appeared on numerous Fox News shows and nominated host Pete Hegseth as the next secretary of defense. In April 2023, Fox News agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million after several of its hosts and guests falsely suggested the company was involved in a scheme to rig the 2020 presidential election against Trump.
What To Know
In his Truth Social post Trump said: “Great news about Sean and Ainsley. They are officially engaged to be married! There are no finer people than these, and there will be no finer couple. Congratulations to both – A deal made in HEAVEN!!! DJT.”
The abbreviation “DJT,” short for Donald J. Trump, is used by the president elect to indicate messages he has written himself.
Hannity has hosted a self-titled Fox News show since 2009, whilst Earhardt is the co-host of Fox & Friends and has written four New York Times bestselling books.
In a statement released by Fox News, Hannity and Earhardt said they “couldn’t be happier,” adding: “We are overjoyed and so thankful to our families for all of their love and support during this wonderful time in our lives.”
According to Fox News Hannity proposed to Earhardt at their home church over Christmas, which they described as the “perfect place” to ask the question.
Both Hannity and Earhardt were previously married and have children from their previous relationships—two and one respectively. The couple told Fox News they both “still get along well” with their former partners and “made them aware” of what was happening with their new relationship ahead of time.
