New York comes to Los Angeles for the weekend. Dodgers have lost each of the first two series of this homestand at Dodger Stadium.

MLB: APR 17 Mets at Dodgers

The Dodgers hope the third time is the charm after losing the first two series of this nine-game homestand. The final matchup is this weekend, with the Mets at Dodger Stadium for three games beginning Friday night.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto starts the series opener on Friday night. After allowing five runs in one inning in his major league debut on March 21 in Seoul, Yamamoto has settled down stateside with three straight five-inning starts with a 1.80 ERA while striking out a third of his batters faced.

Yamamoto will be on six days rest on Friday, the fourth time in five major league starts he’ll have more than five days rest. The Dodgers plan to give the right-hander extra rest whenever possible as he acclimates to the majors, emulating his schedule during his time in Japan.

“I don’t foresee normal rest for quite some time,” manager Dave Roberts said Monday. “It’s certainly not off the table, but obviously it won’t happen any time soon.”

Technically, the Dodgers list the starting pitchers for Saturday and Sunday as yet to be announced. Gavin Stone and James Paxton are in line to start should the team decide to stay in order. But with off days Thursday and Monday surrounding this series, the Dodgers have an opportunity to reshuffle their rotation order this weekend should they see fit.

Tyler Glasnow, coming off his worst start of the season, allowing six extra-base hits and six runs in a loss to the Nationals on Monday, would be on five days rest if he starts on Sunday, for instance.

Sean Manaea starts for the Mets in Friday’s opener, the third left-handed pitcher the Dodgers will face in a four-game stretch. The Dodgers absolutely torched Manaea in 2022 when he was with the Padres, scoring 24 runs on 28 hits in 17⅔ innings, but he recovered to a 3.38 ERA in 10⅔ innings while with the Giants last season.
