The 55-year-old music mogul was arrested in September and faces multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy, trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation for purposes of prostitution.

Combs has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn after being denied bail.

A jury of 12 New Yorkers has been sworn in for the trial, which is expected to last approximately eight weeks.

Among the first witnesses to testify was Combs’ former partner, singer Cassie Ventura, who delivered emotional and graphic testimony detailing years of alleged abuse.

“Let’s talk about the filth that’s starting to come out in the early days of the Diddy trial,” said Sky News host Paul Murray.

“Surprise, surprise, he’s a creep. Surprise, surprise, he’s done awful things.”

Kelly concurred, stating, “Unfortunately, we are going to take a disgusting trip to his seedy, awful world.

“The man has no class, he has no kindness in his dark, dark heart, and he is depraved.

“He’s a depraved, disgusting individual, about whom I wish to hear nothing, nothing, after this trial is done.”

While acknowledging the disturbing nature of the allegations, the 54-year-old American journalist emphasised the importance of legal due process.

“Is he a criminal, akin to a mob boss running several criminal enterprises? While it’s very clear to me he is a depraved, disgusting person, we have to prove that he violated the law.”

She added, “I can see what the defence is doing here, trying to say: ‘Alright, he has these ‘freak offs’, you know, weird, kinky, group in Hollywood, that’s not an illegal thing, it happens all the time’.”

However, Kelly pointed out the legal nuance: “If you don’t have the consent of the women or men, as the case may be, it is illegal, but okay, we (the defence) are going to argue over whether they were willing participants.

“And they (the alleged victims) are going to say, ‘Absolutely not, he drugged me against my will, maybe there were drugs in that baby oil… But I definitely didn’t consent to being drugged, or being raped or sodomised by P Diddy’.”

Kelly also highlighted the potential involvement of celebrities in the trial, including Canadian actor and comedian Mike Myers. Picture: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

Kelly also highlighted the potential involvement of celebrities in the trial.

“What’s really going to be interesting is the parade of celebrities who we expect to be mentioned and/or called into that courtroom,” she said, citing Canadian actor and comdeian Mike Myers as one surprising inclusion on the witness list.

“Why is he getting called? Why is he on the witness list? That’ll be fascinating.”

She acknowledged the courage required of the women testifying, stating, “And then of course there are the ‘no name’ women, who are going to have to find every ounce of courage they have to sit on that witness stand across from someone who can buy and sell their whole families, who is accused of behaving violent in the past toward both male and female adversaries or so-called friends who ticked him off.”

Attorney for Mr Combs’ accusers Andrew Van Arsdale says Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ files against him should have a “chilling effect”.

The mother-of-three referred to a past allegation that Combs firebombed a rival rapper’s car over a romantic dispute.

“There are questions about whether he’s potentially done worse than that to others,” she said.

“And these young women with no power and no money who could put him behind bars for the rest of his life have to sit there, look him in the eye, and say what he did to them.

“Now, that’s going to be a very tall order.”
