Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is heading to injured reserve and will miss at least the next four games, according to the team’s executive vice-president.
Prescott injured his hamstring in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons and it has been widely speculated that he could miss between six and eight weeks of action because of the partial tear.
The team were undecided about placing him on injured reserve in case he could return quicker, but VP Stephen Jones has now confirmed that he will be moved there to clear a roster spot.
‘Obviously a tough, tough situation, losing him for that period time but we’re going to do what’s in the best interest of Dak and right now I don’t think anyone knows whether it’ll be four weeks, six weeks or the season.

Cooper Rush will start for the Cowboys for the next four weeks, and potentially longer
‘We’ll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us.’
Backup QB Cooper Rush is set to play for the Cowboys this weekend in a tough match-up against the Philadelphia Eagles at the AT&T Stadium.
It is not the first time Rush has filled in for Prescott in a tight spot, previously going 4-1 as the starter in 2022 when Prescott broke his thumb.
This time around it is set to be a more difficult scenario for Rush, with a 3-5 record and the team’s season hanging in the balance.
‘I mean, we’re just trying to beat Philly,’ Rush said when asked how he was approaching this weekend’s game.

‘Got to take them one at a time. It’s a cliche but it works. And so that’s kind of the goal and you’re really just taking it practice by practice, game by game and we’ll see what happens.’
There is still a chance that Prescott may not play again this season if it is decided that his injury needs surgery.
‘He’s got to have some weeks off of it before he can see if it really does require surgery and so he doesn’t want surgery,’ team owner Jerry Jones said this week.
‘He wants to be on the field and going for it. And so he’s weighing that, we’re weighing that and we’ll just see how it goes here.’
