CATCHING STRAYS ‘Shot at Noah Lyles?’ fans wonder after USA basketball’s ‘playing for bronze’ tweet on dramatic Paris Olympics night

Noah Lyles won a gold medal in the men’s 100-meter race on Sunday

FANS are questioning the intentions of a post on the official USA Basketball’s X account.

The Team USA men’s basketball team played Serbia in a semifinal match on Thursday and staged a massive 17-point comeback propelling them to the gold medal game.

Steph Curry, 36, exploded for 36 points in his best game of the Paris Games, stepping up when his teammates needed him the most.

LeBron James, 39, did it all on the court, ending up with 16 points, 12, rebounds, and 10 assists to become the only player ever to record multiple triple-doubles at the Olympics.

After the game, USA Basketball shared a post to its official X account and captioned it, “We don’t play for Bronze,”

The post included pictures of the team huddled at midcourt and Joel Embiid celebrating with Curry.

Fans were quick to react to the caption believing it was a shot at another Olympic star.

“Shot at Noah Lyles?” questioned one fan.

“Oh s**t we throwing shots a Lyles?” asked a second.

“Shots sent at Noah Lyles,” claimed a third.

“Shot fired at Noah Lyles,” said a fourth, adding two skull emojis.

This comes after Lyles failed to secure a gold medal in the men’s 200m race on Thursday.

Lyles, 27, took bronze behind Team USA’s Kenny Bednarek and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who claimed gold.

After the race, he looked tired and collapsed on the track, clearly struggling to breathe.

Medics quickly came to the Team USA sprinter’s aid, pulling him away in a wheelchair.

It was then revealed Lyles had Covid, which has forced him to bow out of the 4x100m relay race which will take place Friday at 1:45 pm Eastern time.

“First I want to thank God for getting me through this entire Olympics!” Lyles said on Instagram.

“Second I want to congratulate @tebogo_letsile_, @kenny_bednarek, and everyone else on an amazing Olympic 200m final.

“Finally I want to thank everyone for the supportive messages. I believe this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics.”

Despite losing out on gold in the 200m race, Lyles secured one in the 100m.

The 27-year-old American sprinter claimed victory in a time of 9.79, ahead of Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson in a photo finish.

After the race Lyles exploded with emotion screaming “I told you!” to the watching world.
