Cameron Brink gives confident and controversial answer when asked if WNBA is harder than college

Leading into the 2024 WNBA Draft, everyone knew that Caitlin Clark was a lock to go No. 1 overall. Although there was some debate about who would go second, Cameron Brink was the favorite in most mock drafts to be selected No. 2 by the Los Angeles Sparks.

That’s exactly what happened, with LA needing a low-post presence to pair with Dearica Hamby. Brink has wasted little time in becoming a key figure, as she’s averaging 25 minutes per game and has started every one of them.

Cameron Brink is having more fun in WNBA than at Stanford

When asked about the transition from college basketball to the WNBA, Brink gave a surprising answer on Paul George‘s podcast.

Everything else is harder. The physicality, the speed, the way your confidence just goes up and down. But the spacing; let me tell you, the spacing is amazing… When I was at Stanford I would get tripled like this, there was no spacing… There’s just so much space to work.

Brink has been enjoying the additional freedom on the court, claiming that “I’m actually allowed to play on the perimeter“. Although she admits the WNBA is hard, she says she’s having a lot more fun than she did in college.

That has certainly bore out on the court, at least on the defensive side of the ball. Over the last two games, Brink has blocked nine shots and stolen four passes in total. It’s only a matter of time before she starts demanding more of the ball on offense, which will make her a truly complete player in no time.
