A unique approach to the 2025 NFL draft process

Cam Skattebo makes eye-catching decision before the Draft that could change NFL teams' plans

Arizona State Sun Devils running back Cam Skattebo has made headlines for his unique approach to the 2025 NFL draft process. Unlike most prospects who follow the traditional route of participating in the Big 12’s pro day, Skattebo has opted for a private workout at Arizona State University.

His decision to skip the conference-wide event is just the latest example of how he is charting his own course to the next level.

ASU sports reporter Michelle Gardner detailed Skattebo‘s approach, noting that the running back is prioritizing an individualized showcase over the standardized pro day format.

The Big 12’s pro day, set to take place between Tuesday and Friday, provides draft hopefuls with a stage to perform in front of NFL scouts, coaches, and executives.

However, Skattebo has chosen to demonstrate his skills on his own terms, a move that aligns with his previous decisions at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

At the Combine, Skattebo participated in only select drills, opting out of key tests such as the 40-yard dash, three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, and bench press.

Instead, he focused on the vertical jump and broad jump, posting impressive results with a 39.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-3 broad jump-numbers that emphasize his lower-body explosiveness and athleticism.

Skattebo’s skill set and college dominance

Skattebo is widely regarded as one of the most versatile running backs in this year’s draft class. His game is built on physicality, agility, and receiving ability, making him a true three-down back who can contribute in multiple ways at the next level.

His ability to run through defenders, catch passes out of the backfield, and maintain top-tier endurance sets him apart from many of his peers.

During the 2024 college football season, Skattebo was a dominant force for the Sun Devils. He rushed for 1,711 yards and found the end zone 21 times on the ground.

Additionally, he was a key weapon in the passing game, recording 45 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns. His standout moment came in the 2025 College Football Playoff, where he delivered an electrifying performance against the Texas Longhorns.

Despite his impressive college production, Skattebo is not projected as a top-tier pick in the draft. CBS Sports ranks him as the No. 153 overall prospect, placing him in the mid-to-late rounds.
