Whoopi Goldberg, the outspoken actress and TV personality, has made a bold assertion regarding Elon Musk’s actual political role in Donald Trump’s anticipated administration. During the November 21 episode of The View, Goldberg expressed skepticism over Trump’s recent claim that Musk will head the newly announced “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). Instead, she suggested that Musk’s influence might be far greater than publicly acknowledged.
Goldberg’s remarks came after Trump indicated that Musk would play a significant role in streamlining government operations. However, the Sister Act star did not hesitate to voice her doubts, stating that she believes Musk is functioning as the “actual” vice president rather than Trump’s official running mate, J.D. Vance.
“I believe Elon Musk is the actual vice president,” Goldberg said on air. “Yes, I believe that. Because I think J.D. Vance, he’s kind of an interim. But I believe that Musk is the real actual vice president. He’s making decisions, he’s doing things. So I think, ‘Why doesn’t he have to give up X?’ I’m musing.”
Despite Goldberg’s speculation, Musk, a native of South Africa, is constitutionally ineligible for the vice presidency due to the U.S. requirement that the role be held by a natural-born citizen. Still, Goldberg’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about Musk’s increasing involvement in American politics and his influence over policy decisions.
Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla, SpaceX, and social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has been vocal about his political views, often engaging in public discourse with high-profile figures across the ideological spectrum. His alignment with Trump’s administration and his appointment to DOGE signal a deepening relationship between the two, raising questions about the extent of Musk’s influence on governmental operations.
Goldberg’s skepticism is shared by others who have scrutinized Musk’s expanding reach in politics. Many observers have pointed out that Musk’s role in shaping government policies—especially in sectors like technology, energy, and space exploration—could effectively make him one of the most powerful unelected figures in Washington.
This is not the first time Goldberg has spoken candidly about her views on Trump. She has previously declared her refusal to say his name and has remained a vocal critic of his policies. With the 2024 presidential election and its aftermath continuing to dominate public discourse, Goldberg and her co-hosts on The View have consistently offered sharp and sometimes controversial takes on the political landscape.
As the new administration takes shape, speculation about Musk’s true role in Trump’s government is likely to persist. Whether Goldberg’s assertion holds any merit remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Musk’s influence is undeniable, and his presence in the political sphere will continue to generate debate. For now, Goldberg’s claim adds another layer to the ongoing discussion about the billionaire’s place in American politics and his potential impact on the nation’s future.

Elon Musk has already been selected for a role in Donald Trump‘s cabinet for his upcoming presidential term, but Whoopi Goldberg is feeling skeptical about it.
During the Thursday, Nov. 21 episode of The View, the actress and TV personality shared her unfiltered opinion on what Musk’s political involvement will be under Trump, who already said Musk will lead the so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” or DOGE.
But Goldberg, for one, isn’t buying it.
Instead, the 69-year-old Sister Act star insisted that Musk is going to be Trump’s “actual” vice president, rather than his real running mate, J.D. Vance.
“I believe Elon Musk is the actual vice president,” she said during Thursday’s broadcast. “Yes, I believe that. Because I think J.D. Vance, he’s kind of an interim. But I believe that Musk is the real actual vice president. He’s making decisions, he’s doing things. So I think, ‘Why doesn’t he have to give up X?’ I’m musing.”
It’s worth noting that Musk, a native of South Africa, is not legally eligible for the vice president role, as he is not a natural-born citizen of the U.S., which is a requirement for the position.
Goldberg—along with the rest of her co-hosts—haven’t been shy to share their honest thoughts on the political atmosphere this year, especially during the height of Trump’s campaign for the presidency against Vice President Kamala Harris.
Goldberg has previously voiced her decision to refrain from even saying Trump’s name, which is something she said is “not going to change,” even when he becomes the 47th U.S. president in January 2025.
