Ariana Grande served as one of The Voice coaches during Season 21, but will she return again? The Wicked star shared the big reason why she’s not planning to come back to the singing competition.
Is Ariana Grande Coming Back to The Voice?
Grande was a coach on The Voice in 2021, alongside Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and John Legend. While she coached Jim & Sasha Allen to the semi-finals, ultimately her singers were eliminated. Clarkson’s trio, Girl Named Tom, won Season 21.
While fans would love to see Grande in one of The Voice chairs again, it sounds like she’s not going to return in a future season. During an appearance on the November 6 Las Culturistas podcast, she told hosts Matt Rogers and Bowel Yang that it’s not in the cards because she got “emotionally attached” to the contestants.
Rogers asked, “Would you ever go back and do [The Voice] again — and do you think you mostly did it because the chair spun?” Grande said the chair wasn’t the main reason she was a coach, however, she admitted “it was a perk.” She added, “It was a good perk. It is really fun.”
The singer continued, “I got so emotionally attached to everyone. That’s my problem. I can’t really do that because I really get in. I really get in there with everyone. I love everyone so much. I love meeting people and I felt so invested. And I still do.”
Grande hasn’t completely cut herself off from The Voice, however, as she does keep up with the Season 21 contestants on social media, including Allen, Bella DeNapoli, David Vogel and Raquel Trinidad. She said she hasn’t “really been in touch with anyone” because she’s been so busy lately. “But I love them and I’m in touch with them on Instagram,” Grande noted. “I like their posts, I see their things, I see what they’re up to.”
The singer added, “I’m still in touch with some of them but… I get very involved.”

Grande called her fellow Season 21 judge Clarkson “unbelievable,” noting “she really is one of the greatest vocalists that there ever has been ever.”
In a 2021 interview with E! News, Grande revealed that being on the show turned out to be more challenging than it looks. “You watch it on TV and you think you know, ‘OK, I’m going get in there and it’s going to be easy, whatever. But it’s so hard. [The other coaches] are so seasoned and so great at it.”
She noted at the time, “I love everybody’s energy so much. Being able to work with Kelly and John and Blake — it’s been so informative and I’m learning so much.”
The Voice is available to stream on Peacock.
