Angelina Jolie Says Her ‘Light’ Was ‘Dimmed’ During Brad Pitt Divorce Years

Angelina Jolie was at a low point before finding her “light” again.

The accomplished actress and activist is riding a career high off the acclaim she’s receiving for her role as legendary opera singer Maria Callas in Maria. But beyond that, she’s been dealing with her very public and very contentious divorce from Brad Pitt. She filed way back in 2016 — and only late last month did they finalize it. During an interview with the Times Radio published on Monday, the mother of six opened up about the Pablo Larraín-directed film helping her “rediscover” herself amid so much personal turmoil:

“You’re an artist, and you go through different things in life and you wonder if certain parts of you have shut down or who you are or what you have inside of you. And if your light has dimmed and if you have less to contribute or if you don’t know yourself.”

That’s so sad. We truly sympathize…

With everything that allegedly went down between her and the Ad Astra star, it’d be enough to rattle anyone. Especially when it’s strung out for the public to see over the better part of a decade. But as we know, she and Brad FINALLY settled their divorce late last month. And with the inspiration she found from Maria, she’s a new woman. She told the outlet:

“To push and rediscover things and try for things that I hadn’t ever tried, and what a gift as an artist to be pushed again at this time in my life to do something that terrified me, and I wasn’t sure I could do, is the greatest gift. And to be with a director you feel so comfortable with, that it’s okay if you try your best and you fail it’s all right because they’re supporting you and helping you. So yeah, it was very nice.”

Earlier this week, an insider told People Angie has “been trying hard to be light after a dark time” … So we’re so happy to hear she’s found again. And may we add she’s glowing!

We’re so excited for what’s next from Angie. We’ve definitely missed her light on the big screen these last years. Since the divorce she’s done so little. There was Maleficent 2, the solid thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead and her surprisingly affecting turn in Marvel‘s unfortunate flop Eternals. But was that really it for EIGHT YEARS?? For one of the biggest movie stars of ALL TIME, that’s not a lot. We love that she’s talking about getting her fire back with Maria.
