The Bernie Mac Show alum Camille Winbush recently defended the OnlyFans account she started three years ago in order to make supplemental income outside of her acting career.
The 34-year-old former child star earned a Young Artist Award and three NAACP Image Awards for her performance as the eldest of the three children – Vanessa ‘Nessa’ Thomkins – featured in creator Larry Wilmore’s sitcom about the late great comedian, which aired on Fox for five seasons spanning 2001-2006.
‘When people say, “Oh, those Bernie Mac checks must have dried up,” I’m like, “From a job 20 years ago when I was a 12-year-old? Yeah. Like, duh,”‘ Camille told Comedy Hype last Friday.
‘Listen, if I was on Friends making a million dollars an episode, yes, those residual checks would still be very nice. But as time goes on they get smaller and smaller every year. You’re not making the same amount that you were when the show was current per episode. 20 years later those checks are not sustainable for a living.’
Winbush continued: ‘And with the industry being as fickle as it is, you can’t count on any job to last or even to book a job. So over the years, I have done regular nine to fives. I owned an ice cream shop [Baked Ice] for three years when I was a teenager and I funded that with my own money.

‘I taught gymnastics to kids where I was making like $11-$12 an hour. So I’ve done that, but if I can find a way to make enough to buy a home from the comfort and safety of my own living room, why wouldn’t I do that?’
The Los Angeles native has a ‘no nudity’ rule on her ‘CandidlyCam’ account on the Fenix International-owned XXX platform – which takes a 20% commission on all of her earnings – and it’s currently available for free subscription.
Camille also promises to ‘send a personal thank you’ to anyone purchasing items off her linked Amazon Wish List featuring lingerie, sexy costumes, a $161 Dyptique scented candle set, and numerous gift cards valued at $25-$105.
Winbush – whose parents and friends were supportive of her decision – wondered why her content wasn’t regarded in the same light as an actor portraying a stripper or performing a simulated sex scene: ‘It makes me wonder is it the platform itself or the content because the content would be the same?’
‘I would say my content is comparable to what you would see in a Maxim magazine – not even really Playboy,’ the homeschooled millennial explained.
‘Like, yeah, sometimes I wear sheer lingerie and dance around but I’m never nude. I’m not doing anything sexually explicit. Like honestly you can see more on Instagram and Twitter or on a runway than what I’m showing. So it’s not as scandalous as people assume it is.’
Camille is also remembered for her roles as Emma Aimes on the NBC/UPN sitcom Minor Adjustments (1995-1996) and Lauren Treacy on ABC Family’s teen drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager (2008-2013).
Winbush appeared in films like John N. Smith’s 1995 drama Dangerous Minds starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Chuck Russell’s 1996 action movie Eraser starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jim Jarmusch’s 1999 crime drama Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai starring Forest Whitaker.
And it’s been two years since the Holiday Hideaway star wrapped her role as Attorney Chase Collins in Kimberly Conner’s long-delayed serial killer thriller Lipstick, in which she filmed her first sex scene.
