Andy Reid sticks up for Travis Kelce at his lowest: "I know people say he's old but..."

Travis Kelce was a fantastic player for the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the 2018 season. He won a Super Bowl and was one of Patrick Mahomes’ most potent weapons. However, Travis gained celebrity renown once his connection with music sensation Taylor Swift came to light a year ago. Despite winning the Super Bowl once more, this season has been different from the previous one.

As a matter of fact, his performance this season has been lackluster, and a lot of supporters attribute this to his inability to focus on football in favor of hanging out with Swift. Granted, Kelce hasn’t been the same, but every superstar experiences setbacks in their career. Andy Reid, the coach of the Chiefs, at least, makes that claim.

Although Travis Kelce’s sluggish start has some Chiefs fans and fantasy football managers concerned, Andy Reid isn’t worried. Throughout his incredible career, Kelce averaged 61.9 yards per game; but, after three games this season, he has only piled up 69 yards on eight catches. In addition, the 34-year-old tight end has not yet scored a touchdown, leading some to hypothesize that perhaps aging is catching up with him.

Some critics, like Todd McShay, have even pointed the finger at Kelce’s “partying” with Taylor Swift during the offseason. But Reid is having none of it. He shrugged off the concerns and made it clear he’s not buying into the narrative that Kelce’s best days are behind him. “I know people are saying that he’s old or that he has distractions, but defenses don’t think that,” Reid stated confidently, as reported by Charles Goldman from A to Z Sports.

Reid shrugs off critics: “Trav is fine and working hard”

In Reid’s eyes, Kelce is still doing what he’s always done-working hard and being the key player he’s known for. “Trav is fine,” Reid reassured. “He just keeps being Trav. He works his tail off. He hasn’t lost a step. He’s not distracted. [Defenses] are making sure he’s taken care of.” For Reid, it’s only a matter of time before Kelce finds his groove again.

Kelce himself isn’t sweating it either. He stated on his podcast, The New Heights, that as long as the Kansas City Chiefs are winning, he doesn’t care about his own numbers or targets. “Whatever it is, it’s football, baby,” Kelce remarked, adopting his signature carefree demeanor. “Now hurry up. I’m not getting hung up on hitting the goals and everything. All I want is for my offense to be successful.”

Kelce appears content as long as the Chiefs are winning with a 3-0 record, and supporters may want to adopt a similar mindset. Kelce will have another opportunity to show everyone why he remains one of the finest in the game when the team plays the Los Angeles Chargers.
