She shared the selfie to Instagram, which showed her with the three contestants on stage.
“Hey @brendanpsargent! Ask and ye shall receive. Glad I didn’t delete it!” she wrote in the caption, followed by “#yesthishappened.”
Sargent thanked her in the comments, where he wrote, “Oh my God, I can’t believe this! Thank you so much!”
Couric was one of many guest hosts who filled in after Alex Trebek passed away in 2021, before Jennings and Mayim Bialik were named co-hosts of the game show. Couric was the first female guest host in the show’s history.
“I want people at home to see people like them in these important powerful authoritative roles,” Couric said at the time, per the Los Angeles Times. “So to be the first woman on a show that stands for excellence and intelligence and integrity is a real honor for me. For little girls everywhere, it’s cool to be smart.”
