Dylan Dreyer Makes Bold Declaration About Craig Melvin’s New Gig: ‘They Survived’

Ever since Hoda Kotb announced that she was going to leave the Today show in early 2025, fans have speculated as to who could replace the veteran journalist on the morning show.

They didn’t have to wait too long, as on Nov. 14, the program revealed that a familiar face would be taking over for Kotb on the NBC show—Craig Melvin.

On Nov. 15, meteorologist Dylan Dreyer shared a series of photos of Melvin on Instagram, from pictures taken on the set of the Today show to the two of them posing in front of a hot air balloon.

But the first photo, a selfie snapped by Melvin with Dreyer’s three children in the background, said it all. “I’ve let @craigmelvinnbc babysit my kids…and they survived with smiles on their faces,” she captioned the carousel.

Dreyer continued, writing that Melvin “makes us all smile every day…there’s no better choice as new host of @todayshow ! Congratulations, my friend! You’ve earned this!”

Fans chimed in with similar sentiments in the comments, writing “I’ll definitely miss Hoda, but am so excited for this!” and “Craig’s sincere and kind nature literally permeates through the tv. He will be amazing!”

Melvin’s Today co-hosts also celebrated the news on air on Thursday, with Kotb, Melvin, Carson Daly, Jenna Bush Hager, Sheinelle Jones and Savannah Guthrie all taking part in a bourbon toast.

However, the toast quickly went downhill, with several of Melvin’s colleagues gagging and sticking their tongues out at the flavor of the alcohol. Despite that, the celebratory mood continued, with the show’s Instagram account joking that perhaps next time they’ll stick to champagne.
