A Jeopardy! contestant was hoping to watch the show to remember what happened.

On the Monday, Dec. 2 episode of the ABC trivia game show, Mike Ross, a teacher from Kansas City, Missouri and Evan Jones, a software designer from Seattle, Washington, faced the one-day champ with winnings of $9,300, Susan Beachy, a news researcher from Queens, New York.

Evan took the lead in the first and second round, and defeated the one-day champion and Mike. During the Final Jeopardy! round, they had to guess from the category “Poetic Characters” with the hint being, “In an 1842 poem, it is said of this legendary character that his ‘quaint attire’ is much admired.” No one got the answered correctly. The final scores were Susan with $3,000, Mike $10,100 and Evan with $17,199.

In a Reddit thread about the episode, Evan commented on it and admitted that filming the episode was a “blur.”

They said: “Seattle is tied for the distinction of “latest Jeopardy! airtime anywhere in the country” so I won’t get to see the episode until it airs 10:30 Eastern. Tape day was an absolute blur; I’m looking forward to seeing the clues again so I can actually remember what they were. Good game to Susan and Mike – they’re wonderfully friendly people and it was so much fun to share the stage with them!”

Other Reddit users commented under Evans post and praised the contestant for their performance. One person wrote: “Wow, Evan nailing the ‘ANAGRAMMED OCCUPATIONS’ category had me in awe. I am horrible with anagrams. The speed in which he did it was something else.” Another person wrote: “Just finished watching the episode and your joy was contagious. My husband and I had huge smiles on our faces watching you. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow night!”

Evan then added another comment to explain what happened during the Final Jeopardy! round. The contestant wrote that even Ken believe the clue was “hard.” Evan went on to explain a “nightmare [scenario]” they were trying to avoid.

Evan wrote: “Going into the show, one of the nightmare scenarios I wanted to avoid was: ‘what if I have a decent guess for Final, but I talk myself out of guessing it because I don’t want to look silly if I’m wrong, and it turns out to have been the correct response?’ So one of my personal goals was ‘write something down in Final, no matter what.’ Worst case scenario, you give a silly answer; best case scenario, you luck into the correct response.”

The “blur” Evan mentioned seems to be something common on the trivia series. In October, Kelly Gates commented under a Reddit thread and wrote a lengthy post about her appearance on the show. She thanked viewers for tuning in and expressed how she was “looking forward to watching” the episode and that “the fugue state is real.”
