The View’s pregnant Meghan McCain reveals she ‘didn’t think she would ever be a mom’ after miscarriage in show return

MEGHAN McCain returned to co-host The View via Skype just a few days after announcing her pregnancy news.

The 35-year-old revealed on Wednesday’s show she “didn’t know if [she] was ever gonna be a mom” after her miscarriage.

After deciding to self-isolate at the suggestion of her doctor, the political commentator worked from home and joined The View using satellite.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who is also hosting from home, congratulated Meghan on the baby news before asking how she’s feeling about it all, especially amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Meghan responded: “We’re excited. A little surprised. It’s bittersweet because there’s just a lot of people in a lot of pain right now.

“…I think that everyone knows this has not been a smooth road to motherhood. It’s taken a lot of physical, mental, emotional strength to get here.

“Like a lot of women, it wasn’t a straight line, and I didn’t know if I was ever gonna be a mom.

She continued: “I’m excited, and I keep trying to remind myself that people have had babies in much worse and much more intense conditions.

“This is just how it’s gonna be for a little while. I think there will be a time and a place to talk about this at greater length, but, right now, I think America probably just wants to talk about the coronavirus.”

This is the host’s first day back on The View since announcing on Sunday she and her husband Ben Domenech are expecting their first child together.

She shared how “blessed” they both feel about this exciting news, even though this wasn’t exactly how they wanted to reveal the news.

The daughter of the late Senator John McCain continued: “I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with.”

“I’m fortunate that my employer ABC has allowed me and my co-hosts to work remotely. I am indebted to our producers and crew.

“I also want to acknowledge the heroes – the doctors, nurses, grocery and pharmacy workers, journalists, police officers, firemen and military – who are on the frontline of this fight.”

Last year, Meghan revealed in an op-ed piece that she’d suffered a miscarriage.

She wrote: “I knew I was pregnant before I formally knew I was pregnant.”

“My body told me in all the ways women are familiar with. It told me in the same ways that I was miscarrying. The confirmation from my doctor came the day of that photoshoot, at the worst possible time.”
After she took off time from work on The View, fans began to speculate about why she was away from the show, leading Meghan to share her personal story.

She added: ”This was not supposed to be public knowledge.
“I have had my share of public grief and public joy. I wish this grief—the grief of a little life begun and then lost—could remain private.”
Meghan and Ben got married at her family ranch in Arizona in 2017
