The Voice: Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire bawl after emotional performance by teenager Ruby Leigh as top 12 perform live on NBC show

Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire both cried after teenager Ruby Leigh performed one of Reba’s hits on Monday’s live episode of The Voice on NBC.

‘You blew it out of the water, it was absolutely spectacular,’ Reba, 68, said with tears in her eyes. ‘The way you can hold a note out and be so powerful it just absolutely slays me.’

Reba pointed out that both she and Gwen, 54, were ‘bawling’ after 16-year-old Ruby, from Foley, Missouri, performed Reba’s hit song You Lie.

‘I’m singing a Reba song for Reba herself,’ Ruby said in rehearsals

Chance the Rapper, 30, who came on the show as the Mega Mentor was equally impressed by how good Ruby was for her age.

Reba gave her pointers in rehearsals and told her to remember that it was a very sad song and to put her emotion in it. Reba after rehearsal said she thought that Ruby did the song better than her.

‘There hasn’t been a time on the show where you performed where I haven’t gotten goosebumps,’ Niall Horan, 30, said. ‘That was special. They way you sold that story and did it in Ruby’s way. I love that you were looking over at Reba for approval.’

Jacquie Roar, 28, of North Plains, Oregon, was the first of the 12 contestants who performed during the two-hour episode.

Her microphone pack fell out in rehearsal and Reba helped her put it back in.

‘Let me plug you back in,’ Reba said.

‘The most expensive tech in the history of the world,’ a producer quipped.

‘I’ll send you my bill,’ Reba joked.

Jacquie sang Lainey Wilson’s song ‘Wildflowers and Wild Horses’. Chance the Rapper gave her pointers during rehearsals and Reba encouraged her to enunciate the words.

Reba and the other coaches gave her a standing ovation when she finished.

‘You are incredible,’ Gwen said. ‘You look beautiful tonight. I love that you are so tasteful in the way that you are dynamic. You can do anything. You are so cool about it.’

Team Niall Horan’s New York dark pop rocker Nini Iris, 27, from Brooklyn, went next. She told Chance that she recently got her American citizenship. Nini picked Lovesong by The Cure to perform. Niall encouraged her to tell the story of the song.

Nini performed along with a group of violinists in a long black strapless dress.

‘You never disappoint,’ John Legend, 44, said. ‘Your voice is so powerful. You just have so much magnetism on stage.’

‘That was absolutely spectacular,’ Niall said. ‘Your ability to flip a song on its head and turn it into its own is unlike anyone that I know.’

Gwen’s R&B singer Kara Tenae, 34, from Riverside, California, was excited to meet Chance during rehearsals. She picked Love by Keyshia Cole to perform and Chance assured her that she deserved to be on the show. Kara wowed the coaches wearing a two-piece silver sequined outfit for her performance.

‘You nailed it Kara,’ John said. ‘I loved it!’

‘You are so unbelievably poised and just so confident, just you,’ Gwen, 54, said. ‘You are so pure.’

‘It’s been me and my mom since I was eight years old,’ Huntley said. ‘She has literally had my back through thick and thin.’

‘Huntley just blew me away,’ Chance said in a confessional. ‘What Huntley has in addition to talent is that he is just really likable.’

Chance and Niall both encouraged him to sing with his eyes open to connect with the audience.

‘We are going to win The Voice,’ Gwen said after his rehearsal.

The crowd clapped along as Bias sang and cheered for him when he finished.
