Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa drops back with the ball against the Buffalo Bills at Hard Rock Stadium on September 12, 2024.

After the injury history that we’ve seen start to pile up for Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa over the past several years, the last thing you want to see when watching an NFL game in Miami is No. 1 down on the ground.

What makes it even worse is when it seems very clear that he has yet another head injury.

That’s what happened on Thursday night in the Dolphins’ game against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa, who has dealt with a number of concussions throughout his NFL career, went down with what looked like a head/neck injury after scrambling for a first down late in the game.

After watching the hit, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes chimed in on social media and sent his well-wishes to Tua, who has had a bad history with concussions before.

Tagovailoa took a hard hit from Bills safety Damar Hamlin and immediately tensed up on the ground as some players do when they suffer a concussion. The Dolphins confirmed just six minutes after the injury that Tagovailoa was being ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion.

It was a bad night turned worse for Tagovailoa, who was having one of the ugliest performances of his career before exiting with the concussion. Through the first three quarters, Tagovailoa had completed just 17-of-25 passes for 145 yards, 1 TD, and 3 INTs.

We will continue to monitor the situation with Tagovailoa going forward, but for someone who has dealt with extensive concussion issues during his career, the outlook is certainly concerning.
