Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a special trip to New York City to show his support for his wife, Brittany Mahomes, as she celebrated her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit debut at the magazine’s 60th anniversary event at the Hard Rock Hotel. Taking to Instagram, Mahomes expressed his pride in his wife’s achievement, writing, “proud of you @brittanylynne.”

The online community was quick to react, especially in the wake of Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker‘s recent viral commencement speech at Benedictine College. One fan commented, “A MAN SUPPORTING A WORKING WOMAN… iconic!!!” Another person chimed in, saying, “Because she is more than just a wife and mother .”

The outpouring of support continued with one woman exclaiming, “COUPLE GOALSSSS!!! always showing up for his wifey!” However, a significant portion of the Chiefs Kingdom was left reeling following Butker’s controversial comments about women and his own wife.

Butker’s comments denounced by Benedictine Sisters

During his speech at the small Catholic school on May 11, Butker made remarks that sparked a heated debate. “I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you. Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” he said.

Butker went on to emphasize the importance of his wife’s role as a homemaker, stating, “It cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”

The Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica released a statement denouncing Butker’s speech, particularly taking issue with the emphasis on the term “homemaker.” The controversy surrounding Butker’s remarks has sparked a broader conversation about traditional gender roles and societal expectations.
