After ‘FEDERER: Twelve Final Days‘ and ‘In The Arena: Serena Williams‘, it’s time to look back at the iconic rivalry between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. Chris Evert recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of her maiden Wimbledon triumph with rival turned friend Martina Navratilova. The two celebrated during a meeting for their ongoing project, a documentary about their lives on court.

Navratilova and Evert are two legends of women’s tennis. Their rivalry was at its peak during the 1970s and 1980s. The two have played each other 80 times in their careers, with Navratilova having the edge over her rival by 43-37. Apart from their common love for tennis, they’re also cancer survivors. The bond of the legends has seen several highs and lows, and now, we will witness it in their story.

Speaking on their joint battle with cancer, Evert once said, “This cancer brought us much closer together, which is kind of ironic that something like that would be kind of a blessing in a way, in many ways, and one of those ways that it brought us closer together.” Apart from their joint struggles, both of these tennis legends have often raised their voices on several matters, such as discrimination and equal pay for women in the sport.

With Roger Federer‘s documentary out for fans to view and with Serena Williams‘ documentary to go live on 10th July, Evert and Navratilova continue the documentary tradition for tennis fans. In September 2023, it was reported that EverWonder Studio is teaming with John Skipper’s Meadowlark Media on its first project featuring the dynamic relationship of these two tennis legends through a documentary.

This documentary aims to shed new light on the relationship between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. It includes several never-before-seen footage of the two. The storyline of this documentary highlights the importance of their bond friendship as they battled one of life’s greatest adversities. What are Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert’s thoughts on this iconic documentary?

Ian Orefice, CEO of EverWonder, Studio was honored that both chose the studio to share their story, as they partner with Meadowlark Media. Orefice further said their studio was created to celebrate such stories, and “Their journey has already inspired so many, and we know it will do the same for new audiences around the world.

Chris Evert was elated as she said, “I’m thrilled that this project is moving forward, and that we’ve found the right partners in EverWonder and Meadowlark.” The 18-time grand slam champion further said that she’s looking forward to sharing their story with tennis fans. Their on-court battles will be present, but it will touch upon their lesser-known off-court fights as well!

The Czech-American Navratilova joined her as she said, “This film has been decades in the making, and EverWonder and Meadowlark are the right studios to finally take it from a concept to a reality.” Both look quite excited as they find another venture to partake in together.
