Wimbledon 2024: ‘Homesick’ Coco Gauff Reveals Two Moral Pillars That Help Her Cope With Taxing Tennis Schedule
Amid a hectic tennis schedule, players get hardly any breathing space. Ask the American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff, who spends most of the time on the court. Gauff is one of the few players who plays in both singles as well as doubles consistently. Amid this taxing schedule, she is in constant need of support from her peers and her family and friends haven’t let her down in this matter.
Behind the success of any children, there is strong backing from their parents. Gauff’s case is no different, as her mother and father have supported her tennis career right from the very beginning. What’s more, they even sacrificed their own careers so that their daughter could pursue her tennis dream. Today, she is the World No. 2.
Ahead of the Wimbledon Championships, the American sensation was involved in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, where she talked at length about her relationship with her parents. Gauff mentioned, “There are times, yes, I do feel homesick and feel overwhelmed. But I am thankful that my parents are able to travel with me a lot, so they help a lot.”

However, Gauff’s parents aren’t the only ones backing her during matches. She has the support of her pals as well, who can be seen cheering for her in the stadium quite often. On this front, Gauff said, “Every now and then, some of my friends will be able to pop in for a couple of days before a tournament or something.” Gauff had a very humble upbringing and once praised her father for the values instilled in her.
Coco Gauff gives the perfect tribute to her father
Gauff’s father, Corey, was a basketball player during his youth but later, gave up his passion so that his daughter could pursue tennis. The American tennis sensation came from a humble background and had basic facilities to start off with. However, it didn’t deter Gauff from giving her best, as her father taught her some great life values.
In a perfect ode to her father, Gauff revealed, “So I think that’s just more where I come from and just the people that raised me always taught me to uplift the other people around me. I was taught from a very young age of the privilege that I have, and the way that my dad grew up was definitely not, you know, not the best childhood.”
Gauff will carry her country’s hopes on her shoulders at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. She is one of the hot favorites to win the title there and will look to give her best at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.
