The Bush frontman, 58, has largely remained silent about his ex, 54, following their divorce in 2016 after nearly 13 years of marriage.

However, in the latest episode of the Amy & T.J. podcast, he candidly discussed his ‘shame’ over the separation, admitting to the pain of giving their children Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10, a ‘broken home.’

‘I never thought I’d ever get divorced, so there’s a simple shame in my life,’  the rockstar began.

‘I feel bad for my kids,’ he continued. ‘I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives. It wasn’t fun for me to come from a broken home.’

He added: ‘It can be quite debilitating for kids. The overriding thing is you don’t want to let your kids down.’

Gavin and Gwen romantically crashed into each other at the end of the 1990s and tied the knot in 2002.

After welcoming three sons, and nearly 13 years of marriage, the superstar couple announced their separation, shocking fans. The couple officially divorced in 2016.

During the podcast, Gavin said he felt constrained after the split, stating he was hesitant to disparage his ex, despite what he called a ‘very contentious, hugely emotional, flared-up situation.’

‘Less said, soonest mended and I said nothing,’ he explained.

‘It’s not my place to say anything. I’m handcuffed because I would never want to overly say anything negative about their mom. That’s just not right.’

He also lamented the disconnect between the co-parents, without directly naming the pop singer.

‘The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there’s a loss,’ he said. ‘It’d be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me.’

Gwen has since found love with country singer Blake Shelton, whom she married in 2021.

Their romance blossomed on the set of The Voice as Shelton was navigating his divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert.

‘I go to a lot of events where there’s ‘the other team,’ so to speak, and I just feel really proud of myself in my consistency as a father. I know in my heart that I’m super consistent,’ Gavin said on Thursday’s podcast, appearing to reference Gwen and Blake.

Despite this feeling, Gavin expressed a sense of peace regarding the outcome of his relationship with Gwen.

‘I think that there’s no accidents in life so you are where you’re meant to be. So I don’t live in regret,’ he added. ‘Life just unfolds how it should.’

At the time of their 2015 split, the couple made a joint announcement, saying, ‘While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment.

‘To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.’

Meanwhile, Gavin made his relationship with his girlfriend, Xhoana Xheneti, public on Instagram earlier this month.

On Thursday’s podcast episode, Rossdale mentioned that they’ve been together for ‘a good few months’ and she has met his children.

Gavin is also a dad to daughter Daisy, 35, from his previous relationship with Pearl Lowe.

‘She’s very sweet and very supportive. It’s been really good,’ he said of Xhoana.
