Chris Jones breaks down in tears in Super Bowl national anthem – before having meltdown after Chiefs lose to Eagles

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS star Chris Jones broke down in tears during the national anthem at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.

The 30-year-old cried during every national anthem performance prior to Chiefs games this postseason.

And his emotions got the better of him once again ahead of the Super Bowl at the weekend.

As Grammy award winner Jon Batiste sung the national anthem before the big game, Jones could be seen wiping away tears with a tissue.

Just moments earlier, the defensive tackle ran over to the side of the field to greet President Donald Trump.

Trump made history by travelling to New Orleans, becoming the first sitting President to attend a Super Bowl.

Prior to the big game, many Chiefs fans believed that Jones’ tears were a good luck omen.

However, that wasn’t the case on Sunday.

The Chiefs suffered a 40-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles after an underwhelming performance.

Andy Reid’s team struggled to get a grip on the game, with star players Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes failing to impress.

Jones was visibly frustrated during the first half of the match, especially after DeAndre Hopkins dropped a pass at the end of the second quarter.

He could be seen dropping to his knees before putting his head to his fists.

NFL reporter James Palmer later revealed that he was one of the final Chiefs players back in the locker room at half time after an outburst on the field.

He said: “On his way to the locker room Chris Jones just chucked his helmet across the field in frustration and was one of the final players into the Chiefs locker room.”
