Tyson Fury Accuses Anthony Joshua of Dodging Him for Years, Promises: “He Can’t Escape Me, Even If We’re 50—We’ll Still Sell Out Wembley”

The tension between British boxing giants Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has escalated once again, with Fury accusing Joshua of avoiding a showdown for years. In a recent interview, the reigning WBC heavyweight champion expressed frustration over what he sees as Joshua’s reluctance to face him in the ring, promising that the fight will happen—regardless of age—and it will still be a major event capable of selling out London’s Wembley Stadium.

Tyson Fury, known as “The Gypsy King,” didn’t hold back as he called out Joshua, accusing him of dodging a long-anticipated bout between the two. Fury claimed that Joshua has been avoiding the fight ever since he rose to prominence, missing several opportunities to make it happen.

“He’s been running for years,” Fury said. “I’ve wanted this fight for so long, and every time we get close, something happens to stop it. He can’t escape me forever, though—even if we’re both 50 years old, we’ll still sell out Wembley.”

Fury’s comments have reignited the public’s desire to see the two British heavyweights clash in what could be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. Fans in the UK and around the world have been eagerly awaiting a match between the two champions, both of whom have held multiple world titles and are widely regarded as among the best fighters of their generation.

Talks of a Fury vs. Joshua fight have surfaced several times over the years, with many expecting the bout to be a defining moment for British boxing. Both fighters have established themselves as dominant forces in the heavyweight division, but various factors—including contractual obligations, injuries, and other matchups—have prevented the two from meeting in the ring.

Fury’s latest remarks come after Joshua’s recent resurgence in the boxing world, with speculation that a match between the two could finally be on the horizon. Joshua, who suffered back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk but rebounded with a victory over Robert Helenius in August 2023, has expressed interest in a future fight with Fury, though negotiations have yet to materialize.

Fury’s confidence in selling out Wembley Stadium, even if the fight happens later in their careers, speaks to the magnitude of interest surrounding a Fury-Joshua matchup. The 90,000-seat venue has hosted some of the biggest fights in UK history, including Joshua’s own bouts against Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin. For Fury, the prospect of facing Joshua at Wembley remains a tantalizing goal.

“Even if we’re old men by the time we fight, people will still show up. This is the fight the fans want to see,” Fury added. “I’m ready whenever he is.”

While Fury and Joshua have yet to agree on a fight, both men have busy schedules ahead. Fury is set to face UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a highly anticipated crossover bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 28, 2024. The fight, though more of an exhibition, is expected to draw significant global attention as Ngannou makes his boxing debut.

Joshua, on the other hand, is likely looking at a few more tune-up fights to rebuild his momentum before targeting another title shot. Whether Fury is next on his list remains to be seen, but the growing demand for the two to meet in the ring could push promoters to finally seal the deal.

As the war of words continues between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, the boxing world is left wondering when—or if—the two British titans will finally clash. Whether it happens in 2024 or a decade from now, Fury is adamant that the fight will be a massive event, with Wembley Stadium as the ideal stage for such an iconic showdown. Only time will tell if Joshua is ready to meet Fury’s challenge and give fans the fight they’ve been waiting for.
