Denise Welsh has responded after Robbie Williams took to social media to brand The 1975 frontman Matty Healy ‘unhinged’ as he slammed the ‘boring’ music scene
Loose Women’s Denise Welch has responded after her son Matty Healy was called ‘unhinged’ by Robbie Williams.
Denise shared a post from Robbie on Instagram where he complained about the “boring” British music scene and praised Matty for being different.
“How boring is the music scene right now? I’m not attacking the music itself. I’m just lamenting the death of friction, danger, personality,” Robbie told his three million followers.
“I get it, everyone’s scared. No one knows what you’ll say that will get you cancelled,” the Let Me Entertain You singer went on. “No one knows what you’ve already said or written that will end you. So many people to offend.”
Robbie then complimented Denise’s son, saying: “Matt Healy is the only commercially viable Pop/Rock star that I can see who is willing to be something other than beige. I really like Matt – he’s unhinged, super smart, super talented and willing to upset. Upsetting for a cause. The cause being a complicated inner life a rebellious streak and boredom.”
He hinted that Matt has inspired him, joking that he needs “got to get some of that [kind of] musical energy back in my life”. “Like I say ”so many people to offend”. I hope I have time to fit them all in,” he added, reports the Express.
One fan agreed with Robbie’s comments about Matty, writing: “Couldn’t agree more about Matty Healy – absolutely legend! ” in the comments section of Robbie’s post.
The rock star has gained a reputation for causing a stir with his upfront behaviour, resulting in him being barred from entire countries and his podcast content removed from the internet following an extremely open discussion. Last year, Matty stirred up controversy during a performance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, where he shared a kiss with a male bandmate on stage.

This was a protest against the country’s laws and policies that he described made him feel “f*****g furious”. Just half an hour into his set, he was told to exit the stage and the music festival where he was performing was cancelled. The band received a £2 million lawsuit threat.
Previously in 2022, Matty caused concern by biting into raw meat during live performances. This prompted the NHS to issue a warning about the potential for serious food poisoning.
Although it doesn’t match up to Ozzy Osbourne’s infamous bat-head-biting incident, his actions have certainly led to controversy – so much so that he’s been completely banned from Dubai after he kissed another man and waved a pride flag onstage.
Rumours suggest that Matty once had a romantic involvement with Taylor Swift. He also faced backlash for imitating rapper Ice Spice’s accent, for which he later apologised, describing himself as a “d**k”.
Denise, the proud parent, shared Robbie’s congratulatory tweet on her own Twitter account along with a drawing previously shared by Robbie himself. The caption of this sketch read: “Me, Matt Healy and Morrissey playing laser quest at the Trafford Centre [in Manchester]. We then go to Morrissey’s [house] to write a song about it called ‘We all have fun and then we die.’”
