Jemele Hill had something to say about Harrison Butker firing back at Serena Williams after she took a shot at him during the ESPYs this week.
Serena and her sister Venus stirred the pot during Thursday’s event, poking fun at Butker over his previous comments about women embracing their roles as homemakers.
“So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports,” Venus said.
“Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you,” Serena chimed in.
The Kansas City Chiefs Kicker responded via NBC Sports with the following statement.
“Sports are supposed to be the great unifier and at an event dedicated to celebrating a diverse group of men and women who have accomplished great feats, she used it as an opportunity to disinvite those with whom she disagrees with from supporting fellow athletes,” he said.
Here’s What Jemele Hill Had To Say About Harrison Butker’s Response To Serena WilliamsJemele Hill joined the chat and let it be known that she was not siding with Harrison Butker.
“I thought graduations speeches were supposed to be a time to encourage graduates to explore the opportunities and pathways that their educational advancement has created,” she shared in a tweet.
“Instead he chose to tell the women there they’ve wasted their time and should focus on being homemakers. There is nothing wrong with being a homemaker IF that’s what you choose to do. But that isn’t what he said.”
Hill had already criticized Butker’s initial comments, as did many prominent women in the media. So it’s no surprise that she would take Serena Williams’ side after the tennis legend resurrected the saga.
It appears we haven’t heard the last of it.
