World Series Contender Accomplishes Amazing Feat Not Seen In 42 Years

The Philadelphia Phillies are dominating Major League Baseball this season with a stellar .659 winning percentage, giving them a nine-game cushion atop the NL East ahead of the Atlanta Braves. This success has translated into significant recognition for several of their players, notably with three Phillies picked to start in the upcoming 2024 MLB All-Star game.

For the first time in over four decades, the Phillies will see three of their own take the field as starters in the All-Star matchup, a feat not achieved since 1982 when Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, and Manny Trillo made appearances. Selected by fans this year are Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Alec Bohm, marking a special moment for the franchise and its supporters.

Alec Bohm, at 27, is amidst his most impressive season yet, commanding both the National League’s RBI lead with 68 and the major leagues in doubles with 28. Hitting just shy of .300 with an OPS of .834 and an OPS+ of 135, Bohm’s All-Star debut comes as no surprise given his significant contribution of 2.4 WAR to the team’s efforts.

Meanwhile, Trea Turner, the Phillies’ standout shortstop, is set to make his third All-Star game appearance, his second as a starter. Despite missing 38 games due to a hamstring strain, Turner boasts a .338 batting average and an OPS of .873, providing solid play and accruing 2.0 WAR in just 46 matches. His presence on the field has been pivotal since his last All-Star appearance in 2022, which saw him take home a Silver Slugger award.

Completing the trio is Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper, who will be appearing in his eighth All-Star game, his seventh as a starter. Leading the National League in fan votes, Harper’s recent hamstring strain has him temporarily sidelined, with his return anticipated just before the All-Star game. Harper’s slashing stats stand at an impressive .303/.399/.582, contributing 20 home runs and 20 doubles, paralleling his MVP-winning performance in 2021.

While Harper’s participation in the All-Star game is hopeful but not guaranteed due to his current rehabilitation status, the Phillies remain optimistic about their injured roster. Alongside Harper, Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto are also on the injured list, with targeted returns postulated for the near future, which could bolster the team’s robust lineup for the second half of the season.

Moreover, the Phillies may be on track to have additional representation at the All-Star game with pitchers Ranger Suárez and Zack Wheeler in consideration due to their outstanding performances. Suárez, in particular, has excelled across the board, leading the league in wins, ERA, and ERA+.

The inclusion of these players will be confirmed when the league announces its selections for pitchers and reserves on July 7, potentially adding even more Phillies to the star-studded roster, underlining the team’s commanding presence this MLB season.
