Giancarlo Stanton just made a huge statement on Wednesday when he took to the field against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The New York Yankees slugger silenced his critics with an 8 RBI game as he clobbered three home runs including a grand slam in a 12-0 rout.

In the last few seasons, Stanton has struggled at the plate. Despite hitting 24 home runs in 2023, the American International managed to bat with an average of .191. However, this performance against the Pirates signaled that he was ready for the 2024 season.

During the offseason, tensions seemed to have been high between him and General Brian Cashman as the top official took a dig at his physical condition. Cashman would point his (Stanton) history of injuries and claimed he was sure the slugger would end up getting injured in the upcoming season too.

This led to a war of words between his agent and Cashman, with many making a fun of his body. The 34-year-old though stunned his critics with an incredible physical transformation while arriving at Spring training.

In this game against the Pirates, Stanton showed what he possessed and what he was capable off. His first home came in the first inning but the main talking point was the grand slam. This 453-foot shot off Marco Gonzales cleared all the bases in the second inning to make it an 8-0 game for the Yankees.

After hitting another homerun, Stanton had another chance of a grand slam in the sixth inning. He though was not able to replicate what he had done before and ended up hitting a sacrifice fly.

While hitting home runs in Spring training might not be super impressive, they do give the player the confidence to perform on a high level. Speaking on his performance, the Yankees coach claimed he looked good from the start of the spring training.

He’s looked good all spring from the start. I feel he’s been in control of his at-bats. He was really precise, and when he’s like that, he’s pretty scary.

The five-time MLB All-Star will now be hoping to continue this form and pay back Boone for the trust he had placed on him. The team will also be looking to count on him as they hope to overcome the disappointments of the previous campaign and turn things around this year.
