The Boston Red Sox fans were truly in a treat when the NFL star tight end Rob Gronkowski graced the baseball field to throw the ceremonial first pitch to kick-start the game against the Cleveland Guardians. However, what he threw was hardly in a conventional style – leading to an intense stir on social media.
Unlike other NFL celebrity athletes invited for the ceremonial pitches, Gronkowski surprisingly put on a show that was not at all appreciated. The four-time Super Bowl champion purposely slammed the baseball down in the signature “Gronk Spike” style.
As he did it, he screamed with excitement and flexed his hands before he went on to celebrate with Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck. They chest-bumped each other by jumping up in the air with excitement. Shortly after that, the future Hall of Famer left the field accompanied by his girlfriend and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, Camille Kostek.
The official X handle of the Red Sox posted Gronkowski’s bizarre first pitch with the caption, “Wouldn’t expect anything less from Gronk.”

Social media reaction to Rob Gronkowski’s first pitch at Boston Red Sox game
The former New England Patriots‘ tight end’s move with the baseball was nothing but a reminiscent of his signature celebratory touchdown spike from his good old days in the NFL. By doing so at the Boston’s game, he was celebrating his hometown’s first game of the season.

However, the same can’t be said for the fans claiming Gronkowski was being disrespectful to the baseball and the ceremonial first pitches done by sports celebrities. One netizen even compared it with Travis Kelce’s unconventional behavior at his graduation ceremony, writing, “As cringe as the Kelce graduation video.” Here are some of the social media reactions:
Another X user wrote, “Game was delayed due to ground crew needing to fix the depression in the ground.” It appears not all were unhappy with the legendary tight end. As many celebrated him, recalling his signature ‘Gronk Spike’ and calling him GOAT or all-rounded athlete.
