Before the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves took to the field on Saturday, there was a special guest in town. Retired NFL star Jason Kelce, took part in the ceremonial pitch and meet Bryce Harper.

The former Philadelphia Eagles star decided to hang up his boots after the end of the 2023-24 NFL season. With some free time now, he made his presence felt at the Citizens Bank Park.

Donning a customized No. 62 Phillies jersey, Jason Kelce along with Fletcher Cox, another Eagles star who recently announced his retirement too, threw out the first pitches from the mound. After this, Bryce Harper would call over Kelce and Fox and the sports great would have a chat.

It was during this moment, the Phillies star would pull out a marker and hand it over to Kelce. The 36-year-old would end up signing one of the cleats of Harper and would line up for a photo together later on.

For Jason Kelce, the ceremonial pitch way went better than his brother, Travis Kelce‘s one from last season. The Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end last year was given the honor to throw the first pitch during the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners game. His pitch went horribly wrong leading to fans trolling him.

A foul ball from Austin Riley saw Harper run away and try to catch. In this, the first baseman lost his balance and tumbled over where the camera crew was stationed. Fortunately, Harper was able to get up to his feet quickly and remained in the game. As he got up, a loud round of applause rang around the ballpark with the fans cheering him on.

His manager Rob Thompson would later give an update regarding him and said he will feel a “little sore” on Sunday.
It’s Bryce. He’s going to play the game hard, all the time. It’s tough to reign him in. It’s just the way it is. He’s probably going to be a little sore tomorrow.

Rob Thompson said via AP News.
During the game, Harper would go 0-for-3 and was removed from the lineup later on. Thomson though would claim he did this to “get him off his feet” in this blowout 12-4 loss and not because of any effects from the crash.
