New season, same old result for the Los Angeles Angels. The 2024 season got off to the worst possible start for the American League West side as despite the heroics of superstar Mike Trout, the team ended up suffering a crushing 11-3 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles.

The loss of Shohei Ohtani was always going to play a huge part in the LA Angels future. As the team ushered in the post-Ohtani era, the pressure certainly came down on the shoulders of Mike Trout.

The American International started the season in pure Trout fashion as he homered in his first at-bat. Facing a 1-1 pitch from Corbin Burnes, Trout would smash an 88 mph slider over the fence. A 402 ft home run from him in the first inning, gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

This turned out to be the only joyful moment of the day for the Angels. The Orioles would come flying back in the game and ran out as 11-3 winners.

This bomb from him along with Luis Rengifo‘s hit were the only hits the Angels managed in the game. The two runs from then came through a groundout and an error in the eighth inning.

Social media reacts to Angels Opening Day loss

In the past few years, the Los Angeles Angels have been unable to escape the wrath of the fans following their poor performances. Despite the heroics performances from Mike Trout and then superstar Shohei Ohtani, the team would somehow end us losing some games which would led to fans trolling them.

Once again the team was subjected to this. While many sided with Trout and urged him to demand a trade, there were some who took shots at Anaheim-side. One user would write ,”the most Angels stat ever” while reacting to the stat that claimed Trout homered in his first at-bat off the season and was the only starter to register a hit (Rengifo came in as a pinch-hitter and was thus not an actual starter).

Check out that and some more reactions regarding this from X below:

Nothing says the MLB is back like Mike Trout homering in the 1st inning and the Angels getting ass blasted the rest of the game

During the offseason, Mike Trout was reported to have a word with the team officials regarding the future. Reports also claimed that the team were willing to entertain offers regarding their superstar center fielder and let him leave if he wanted do.

However, this talks did not progress any further. If the team though are unable to shake off his lose and have a positive run in the future, this topic might emerge again which could lead to the team in making a major decision.
