ARLINGTON — It was a tough day at the plate for Sebastian Walcott on June 2, as he failed to register a hit in three at-bats, which saw his batting average slip to .191, though this was an improvement from the .176 average he posted just a week earlier on May 27.

As of Friday, Walcott’s season average stood at .234. While still below the benchmark for success in baseball, it marks a significant turnaround for the Rangers’ most celebrated young talent, suggesting he’s adjusting to life at High A Hickory.

With a batting average of .333 and an OPS of .912 for the month, Walcott’s performance has been head-turning. He’s knocked out five home runs and is leading his team with 11 doubles and 32 walks.

It’s an impressive feat considering Walcott, aged 18, should be wrapping up his high school years. Instead, he finds himself as the second-youngest player competing in the South Atlantic League, surrounded by teammates up to seven years his senior.

Despite these challenges, Walcott has been on a notable upswing over the last six weeks, showcasing why he’s regarded as a top prospect in the Rangers organization.
