In preparation for Taylor Swift’s upcoming ERAS tour in the UK, law enforcement authorities have issued a caution to all fans regarding ongoing circulation of fake tickets.

The 14-time Grammy winner is set to entertain 500,000 attendees across her 13-city tour of the region. However, not all of her devoted fans in the UK were able to secure tickets. Due to the scarcity, a few eager concert attendees have fallen victim to fraudsters, resulting in significant financial losses, law enforcement officials report.

In just the past two weeks, 16 incidents of fraud have been documented in connection with the Eras Tour. Per the Daily Express, the estimated sum of money believed to have been defrauded stands at a staggering £5,000 ($6,336).

Swifties Cautioned About Fake Tickets

The police said in a statement, “The amount of money suspected to have been fraudulently paid is estimated at over £5,000. Many of these frauds are taking place on online marketplace platforms.”

They further cautioned, “Please be vigilant and ensure you are buying from legitimate sources, checking any bank details being provided.”

At the onset of ticket sales in August 2023 for the ERAS Tour, fans flocked to Ticketmaster and AXS in droves, leading to a bewilderingly quick sell-out of all available tickets.

Despite efforts by Ticketmaster to offer resale tickets for the UK tour dates, fans were equally fast in securing those as well.

The Scottish authorities recommend that individuals verify the validity of both the tickets and the websites they are buying from before making any concert ticket purchases. Their guidance includes ensuring the event details, such as the date, time, and venue, are accurate before proceeding with the purchase.

“Pay attention to the seating section or assigned seats, which can indicate fraudulent tickets. Avoid paying with cash, wire transfers, or unsecured payment methods.”

The police force recommended preventive measures, such as employing secure payment methods to safeguard financial information and purchasing secondary tickets from trusted online platforms.
