Just as MLB found their international superstar, Shohei Ohtani, is in trouble. The Japanese is arguably one of the most talented players in history, and has found himself embroiled in a gambling controversy, along with his former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. The allegations are grave, with Mizuhara accused of stealing millions from Ohtani’s accounts.

MLB is currently conducting a thorough investigation into Ohtani and Mizuhara, a probe that could potentially rival the infamous gambling scandal of 1989. This was the year when Pete Rose, a baseball legend, was banned from the sport. The ban was a result of revelations that Rose had placed bets on games he was involved in, both as a player and a manager, during his career in the Major Leagues.

Pete Rose himself spoke about the issue in a video posted on Instagram, where user @JoshBooty10 asked him about his thoughts on the matter, in which The Hit King answered sacrastically ‘”Well, back in the 70s and 80s I wish I’d had an interpreter. I’d be scott-free’.

Pete Rose is widely considered one of the best baseball players ever. However, he was placed on the ineligible list, banning him from ever being associated with MLB and the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Ohtani spoke to the media

Through his new interpreter, Will Ireton, this Monday Ohtani read a statement addressing the situation. Despite not taking any questions from the media present at Dodger Stadium, he spoke for around 10 minutes and claimed that he knew nothing about Mizuhara’s gambling.

Ohtani accused Mizuhara of ‘stealing from him’ and denied using a middleman to place bets in his name, according to a statement excerpt from the Japanese.
