With a sellout crowd of 45,029 fans buzzing with anticipation, Burnes took the mound and delivered a performance that left both teammates and spectators in awe.
In his inaugural appearance wearing the orange and black, Burnes unleashed a masterful display of pitching artistry, tallying an impressive 11 strikeouts over six dominant innings.
Despite allowing a lone solo homer in the first inning, Burnes proceeded to stifle the Los Angeles Angels, retiring 18 of the 19 batters he faced.
Reflecting on his stellar outing, Burnes remarked, “Couldn’t have asked for anything more than that. The way I go about every start, it’s the same as if it’s Game 1 or Game 20 or 100. I’m preparing the best I can so when I get on the mound for the first pitch, everything feels normal.”
Manager Brandon Hyde hailed Burnes’ performance as “awesome,” highlighting the difficulty of such a feat on Opening Day.
“Couldn’t have asked for anything more than that,”Hyde said.
“Awesome, awesome performance. That’s not easy to do — new team, Opening Day, a lot of jitters, probably pretty anxious. And to go out and do what he just did, that’s really impressive.”
Burnes’ precision and command were evident as he notched strikeouts with an array of pitches, including his curveball, cutter, and slider.

First baseman Ryan Mountcastle echoed the sentiment, describing Burnes’ performance as “unbelievable.”
Buoyed by an explosive offensive effort from the Orioles lineup, Burnes seamlessly settled into his new home ballpark.
The Orioles’ early run support combined with Burnes’ dominant pitching set the stage for a resounding 11-3 victory over the Angels.
As Burnes basks in the glow of his successful debut, the Orioles and their fans eagerly anticipate what the rest of the season holds.
With Burnes leading the charge, there’s a palpable sense of excitement and optimism surrounding the team as they embark on their journey through the 2024 campaign.
