In a tragic incident amidst Wednesday’s severe storm, Cathy Tusiani, aged 50, was killed when a tree, uprooted by the storm’s ferocious winds, fell onto her car. Tusiani, the wife of New York Yankeessenior vice president Michael Tusiani, met with the fatal accident on Route 128, between School Street and Leisure Farm Drive, in the Hamlet of Armonk, officials from North Castle confirmed. The incident occurred less than a mile from her residence, during conditions where wind gusts exceeded 50 mph.

Cathy is mourned by her husband, Michael, their two daughters, Alexa and Julia, and the wider Yankees community. In a heartfelt statement, the New York Yankees expressed their deep sorrow: “Words cannot capture the devastating impact that is being felt within the Yankees family after the sudden and tragic loss of Cathy Tusiani. Cathy was beloved by our front office staffers, who were privileged to experience and bear witness to her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and great love for her husband, Michael, over the two-plus decades of dedicated service he has provided the Yankees organization and the Steinbrenner family. As we share in the pain and grief with Michael, daughters Alexa and Julia, and the entire Tusiani family, the Yankees stand with them to offer our complete support and unconditional love as we navigate this unimaginable loss.”

The storm that claimed Cathy’s life wreaked havoc across New York, with winds strong enough to knock down trees, power lines, and even block major roads. In the aftermath of the storm, the massive tree that caused the fatal incident has been segmented and cleared from the site, leaving a stark reminder of the storm’s severity on the side of Route 128.

Citywide efforts to restore normalcy and ensure safety

The focus shifted to cleanup efforts the following day, particularly in Mount Vernon, where fallen trees disrupted power and transport. It?s been a major storm coming through the city, high winds, about 65 miles per hour gusts. Thousands are currently without power.

In Greenburgh, Central Park Avenue was entirely closed off due to downed power poles, which not only disrupted traffic but also caused power outages in the area. The widespread impact of the storm was felt across New York City, with efforts to restore power and clear debris continuing in full force. Approximately 10,000 residents in the Bronx experienced power outages, with similar disruptions reported in various parts of the city.

The New York City Parks Department has advised residents to report any concerns regarding the health or stability of trees by calling 311, prioritizing the removal of trees that pose immediate threats to homes, roadways, and power lines.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of nature’s unpredictable power and the importance of community support in times of loss and recovery.
