On Wednesday, the MLB world received a major shock when Shohei Ohtani‘s interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was fired by the Los Angeles Dodgers on grounds of illegal betting. The 39-year-old’s gambling scandal has since become the trending topic in MLB. ESPN insider Jeff Passan has now broke down this incident on the Pat McAfee Show.

As per earlier reports, Ippei Mizuhara claimed that Shohei Ohtani had no involvement in his illegal betting and apologized for the trouble caused by him. He though admitted that Ohtani knew about his gambling problem and the debt he had and helped him pay that off.

However, a few hours later, a new report emerged that Mizuhara had lied and Ohtani knew nothing about it. This left many fans confused as to what had exactly happened. Jeff Passan would later make an appearance at the Pat McAfee Show and claimed there is a lot of stuff in this story.

The ESPN reporter gave a brief explanation about when did the players found out this and how the stories changed. He would later talk about what the next possible steps could be in this scenario.

If charges are pressed in this situation, we are going to get a full public accounting of what actually happened. We’re going to know the extent of the money. We found $4.5 million in wire transfers.

Passan though emphasized that the $4.5 million amount reported could be more but claimed it would be “irresponsible” to jump to any conclusion in the matter so soon. This words from him comes after several social media users started comparing Ohtani to Michael Jordan and his gambling addiction and started to call him out.

There are so many factors in this situation that we don’t know right now, that jumping to any conclusions I think is irresponsible.

Dan Patrick claims alleged theft story of Ippei Mizuhara doesn’t make any sense

Not just baseball, the whole world of sports is still trying to come to terms about what had just happened in connection with Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara. Former ESPN anchor Dan Patrick has now given his opinion on this matter and claim the alleged theft story did not make “any sense” to him.

Speaking on his podcast, The Dan Patrick Show, Patrick said there is a lot of disconnect between the stories and pointed out what would happen if Ohtani somehow got suspended by MLB.
I want to be careful, and I would caution people of speculation, but there are questions that come up here that it doesn’t make sense… This is not only a big story here, big star here, it’s a worldwide star who just got a $700M deal. Could he be suspended, if they look at the letter of the law, could he be suspended for a year or longer? Major League Baseball doesn’t want this. Nobody wants this.

So far, reports have claimed that Ohtani will likely not be charged or investigated regarding this matter. The Dodgers on the other hand have issued a statement on the dismissal of Mizuhara and declined to make any further comment on this matter.
