In a surprising move, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Jordan Montgomery has reportedly dumped his agent Scott Boras. This comes after he spend a majority of the offseason on the sidelines as an unrestricted free agent.

The former New York Yankees star had a great 2023 season with the Texas Rangers as they won the World Series for the first time in their franchise history. Despite this, the Rangers and Montgomery were unable to finalize a contract extension and he was allowed to leave on free.

He and his now former agent, Boras, demanded a long lucrative contract from the suitors. However, they were unable to get what they asked for as teams started to pull out for the race of his signature.

In the end the Diamondbacks would cease their chance and grabbed him on a one-year, $25 million deal just two days before the Opening Day. His deal though does have a vesting option which could see him extend his stay in Arizona.

The latest reports now suggests that Montgomery was perhaps unhappy with Boras not being able to land him a multi-year deal. The timing of him signing the deal is another reason as Montgomery is yet to make his first appearance for the National League Champions as he continues to working on getting ready for the 2024 season.

Montgomery was one of the top clients of Boras in the offseason along with Blake SnellMatt Chapman and Cody Bellinger. All of them had asked for long contracts which they were unable to get and ultimately had to settle with short-term deals.

Wasserman, the sports agency company from Los Angeles, has some of the big names under them. Their recent work in MLB saw the likes of Zack WheelerYoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow all get long term lucrative contracts, something that Montgomery was hoping for.

Him signing with them could signal that he might walk away from the Diamondbacks after the season is over. With Wolfe and Chanock now on his side, Montgomery might actually end up getting what he wished off if he becomes a free agent again.

However, there is a lot of time and games left to even start thinking of that. At the current moment, the 31-year-old southpaw is still working his way in the minor leagues to get in shape for the 2024 season. On Sunday, he tossed four innings and threw out 65 pitches in a Triple-A game.
