Jamie Foxx recounted his embarrassing auditions with Tom Cruise, who he remained menacingly staring in hopes of securing a role.
Back in 1996, Tom Cruise starred in the iconic role of Jerry Maguire in Jerry Maguire. Jamie Foxx had to audition for a role in the film and back then, the star wasn’t so successful. With the actor feeling nervous, Foxx essentially blew up his auditions for the 1996 film.
With a competitive nature to his side, Jamie Foxx and Cruise engaged in a tête-à-tête about real estate and fame. Although Foxx wasn’t selected for a role in the movie, the actor found quite a hilarious tale to tell to the people.

When Jamie Foxx Fumbled His Audition
Back in 1996, Foxx auditioned for a role in Jerry Maguire in which Tom Cruise was set as the lead. Since Foxx wasn’t a well-renowned actor at that time, he was nervous in front of Cruise. Fumbling up his audition, the actor revealed on The Howard Stern Show the hilarity that ensued during the auditions.

With Cruise stating that he lived in Rome, Foxx was quick to ask whether the Top Gun actor lived on Rome Street with Cruise cussing and stating “Rome, Italy”. Jamie Foxx later revealed that he also tried to win over the audition by just staring at the actor menacingly.
“I had no business being there, I felt. So I’ll never forget making a fool of myself by … speaking to Tom, and Tom said, ‘Where do you live.’ I said, ‘Oh, I got two houses. I live in LA and Vegas, you know what I’m saying?’”
He further continued,
“I’m going toe to toe with Tom Cruise. F**k it, I’m late on payments and all kinds of s**t, … Two houses. … So I said, where do you live? He said, ‘Rome.’ And I said, ‘Rome Street?’ … He looked at me like, ‘No mother***er, Italy!’”
But with the duo engaging in real estate debate, Jamie Foxx (with his brilliant mind) realized that he had no choice but to stare menacingly at Tom Cruise in hopes that he might get the role!

As the interview progressed, Foxx continued his hilarious tale of staring at Cruise menacingly. Hoping that the actor might see the seriousness in Foxx’s eyes, the actor revealed that Cruise lost his place.
“I kept looking at him. Imagine you’re from Texas, and you’ve done a little bit of s**t, but you ain’t seen no real f***ing stars, right? So I’m just sitting there watching, and we get to reading, right? … And as I’m reading he does a dramatic pause, but that’s his thing. I f***ing think he lost his place.”
Although the actor was rejected from Jerry Maguire, Foxx would later join hands once again with Tom Cruise in Michael Mann’s 2004 film titled Collateral. The film was widely praised but Foxx still had his fair share of complaints.
