Freeway Series Recap: Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani & Gavin Lux Carry Dodgers In Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers concluded their short two-game home stand against the Los Angeles Angels with a 7-2 win to split the series.

All things were clicking for the Dodgers as Tyler Glasnow was dominant and their offense came through, led by Shohei Ohtani and Gavin Lux.

The Dodgers scored first when Lux homered to begin the third inning. It was just his second homer of the year, but potentially the sign of a turnaround for Lux as all three of his balls in play were hit hard.

After Cavan Biggio singled, Ohtani blasted his 23rd homer of the year, traveling 459 feet, to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 3-0. Freddie Freeman then doubled, and Andy Pages followed with another double to drive him home, completing a four-run third inning.

The Dodgers continued to add on in the fourth inning as Miguel Rojas started them off with a single, Biggio followed with a hit of his own, and Ohtani walked to load the bases. Will Smith worked a bases loaded walk and Freeman hit a sacrifice fly to put the Dodgers up 6-1.

In the fifth, Rojas doubled and scored when Lux singled, giving them their seventh and final run.

Glasnow once again proved why he’s the staff ace and why the club paid the high price to acquire and extend him. The right-hander gave up just two runs (one earned) on two hits over seven innings while striking out 10 and walking no one.

The first run he allowed, which was the unearned one, came after Nolan Schanuel reached on catcher’s interference. Taylor Ward followed with a double, and Schanuel scored on an RBI groundout from Willie Calhoun.

The earned run was the result of a solo home run from Logan O’Hoppe on a mistake pitch. But overall, Glasnow was nearly unhittable, and every Angels hitter who fell into an 0-2 count ended up striking out.

Glasnow has now thrown 100 innings this season, posting a 2.88 ERA with 135 strikeouts and a 0.87 WHIP.

Alex Vesia worked a scoreless eighth inning and Michael Petersen pitched the ninth.

Dodgers win when Miguel Rojas hits

The Dodgers are now 22-0 this season when Rojas gets a hit in the game. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored as he continues to start in place of Mookie Betts.
